You get a weapon, an armor, two accessories that affect the respective character and then every character gets a special accessory slot that allows you to equip accessories with special party wide effects. Level ups also give you stats.

Gear is pretty much a flat upgrade each time with very limited equipment slots and it doesn't even make a huge difference.

It's a very linear equipment system. It's too simple.

The worst is that it doesn't feel like much of a difference when you get new equipment.

There's accessories that decrease skill MP usage or some that improve MP recovery. Those are pretty significant in terms of upgrade potency.
