How to Equip items for new players

Hi, I bought the game yesterday and am really enjoying it so far. One of the things I like are the Relics that alter gameplay for those of us who want to play but may not necessarily be great at fighting - the Storytelling one and the one that show when you successfully deflect are brilliant quality of life additions.

In the first dungeon you get access to some items, namely a ring and some armour, but it's not obvious how to apply them to your character. When I collected them out of the chests I went and found them in the Items menu and it would display their stats and how they would increase each character's defense, but when I clicked the action button to apply it, all I got was a sound effect. What I was expecting to happen was for it to let me select which character to put the item on.

I also watched someone live streaming the game and they had the same issue. When I Googled for how to do it, I found other people asking the same.

The answer is to go to the Equip menu instead of the Items menu, and do it from there. Once you're in there, the interface makes sense and I can see what my characters are wearing and I can swap armour out, but there's been nothing in the game up to this point that tells you about the Equip menu. "Equip" may be a standard thing in games like this, but there are plenty of players who won't have played this style of game before. For me, it meant I went into the first big Boss fight knowing I had armour that could be equipped but I didn't know how to, so I took a lot more of a beating than I should have had, which was less fun knowing that I could have had extra help.

Can I suggest as a quality of life improvement, when a player is in the Items menu and clicks the action button on an equippable item, instead of just a sound effect and no feedback as to why nothing is happening, something happens such as:
1) a message pops up to tell them to use the Equip menu not the Items menu to manage character equipment, and/or
2) you just let players equip from the Items menu
