I can understand this being the case in singleplayer. But it does not feel good at all in multiplayer. I really hope they take a look at this. It's extremely annoying and jarring
We had no idea that we could each do the timed/perfect block for all three characters at the same time. We also didn’t realize in the bottom right it shows the success/fails for the perfect timed actions simultaneously for all characters, creating a friendly sort of competition.
It’s going to take some effort to rewire my brain after years of similar RPGs without this mechanic (and the idea of being assigned or tied to a character), but every attack, spell or whatever is the responsibility of all players…which it turns out, is actually pretty cool.
We’ll see how it goes after more game time!
I can understand turning the feature into a positive. But I still believe its the most annoying and mind numbing thing that only causes confusion, and removes ties to a character. They could even make it a toggle for people who really want to keep it.
I'm not complaining because it is a free update, but it would be nice if this was optional.
The revelation of the fact that we could actually all do the “perfect” timed stuff for all three characters regardless of whose turn it was definitely surprised me. The first few battles after learning this it felt awkward. We’ve definitely warmed up to it since and have found the frustration has disappeared (with the tweak to our thought process).
This is our first time playing and severe having a blast regardless. Definitely feel the love the devs put in. The coop mode certainly requires a shift in thinking though, as generally I’d love to have ownership of just one character completely. We’ll see how it goes from here!
Dev's Ignored this so I'm just going to assume it's a personal choice. An odd, annoying, and questionable one, but a personal choice nonetheless.
Not sure how hard it would be, but it would be extremely nice to have this be a toggled feature so I can feel connected to my character.
It's totally by design. You can learn more about why we approached it this way in this deep dive on the update:

What a petty way to blackmail developers for your personal neuroses.
The entire gameplay design is to involve players in all character mechanics and gameplay.
People like this are why audience reviews and scores and undermined and marginalized.
How is that blackmail? He found out he didn't like it and left a review stating his distaste. He didn't threaten them or force them to do anything.
