Is the current price worth it for this game or not?
So the price of this is more or less the same as what you can pick up a key for Octopath Traveller 2.

That game has been on my list for a while. I like the look of this one though but the price feels like its way too much to me.

Is the asking price worth it for those that have played it?

Yes it is, in fact I gifted a copy to a friend I love it so much.

Also, in my opinion, this game offers better than Octopath's story and writing.

Yeah great! That's sort of why i was referencing that. I didn't write it very well but i was after some sort of comparison.

Everyone has their opinions, but to me, this has been the one I've been waiting for for a long time in terms of a retro-style rpg that actually gives me the same good feelings the classics did.

It hit the nail on the head for me and I am glued to playing it, plus it has replay value with NG+

Perfect.
I've been reading the forums and watching some reviews of the switch version and they all sound similar to what you are saying.

On steam there is the usual noise, but when you filter out all that noise and just look at posts from people who just enjoy games for games it sounds great and has that nostalgic feels.

Putting my tinfoil hat on here but, a lot of the hate seem to stem from Echoes fans. Almost like it's a smear campaign purely for the sake to trash this game.

Yeah there is all kind of weird agendas on steam these days. It's a really weird place and its gotten worse over the years.

Regardless i purchased it so looking forwards to playing some tonight.

Nice! I think you made a good choice, I hope you enjoy it like I did

It's good, not quite great, I'd say 7/10. So if you're a fan of older game, JRPGs, etc... you'll enjoy it. It won't go down as 'one of the greats' but it's certainly worth the cost.

I don't know if this will have the replayability, but this game has been really good and easily worth the full asking price.

I am still not done, but this is standing above many of the 90s JRPGs I used to play. And at this point, I'll say it, this is better than Chrono Trigger.

I'd take it off again. It's natural for fans of that game to gravitate towards a similar-looking game (retro jrpg), and just as natural for them to complain about whatever CE had they feel is missing from this one.

For this game, I'd say it's definitely worth the price. Took me about 30 hours to finish, and I enjoyed all of it.

Its a long game, its not short although it does start to drag at some point and you kinda wish it wasnt this long.

No, you can get much better games for a lower price. It's not a bad game, but it's definitely overpriced.

I love it, it was worth it to me, and I'll be buying the physical version just for a memento in the attic, and I'll be gifting it to people.

The problem is that the story of a 35 hour game waits 10 hours to start rolling and become good. And the problems it has with dialogue and exposition are concentrated more in those 10 hours. Many people are going to refund if the gameplay and aesthetics don't grip them.

I hated the first 10 hours story wise. The combat edged it out for me.

I hate the average JRPG's combat. I suffer through it just to see the story and aesthetics. They give you 1000 spells, upgrades, skills, traits and all this crap, but if you don't want to grind much or at all, and just want to barely beat the optional bosses, you're playing an auto battler. You only use the 1 or 2 obvious optimal choices each turn. It's illusion of choice. Only choices in menus before the fight matter. This is ass backwards to me.

Sea of Stars turns that upside down. There's minimal preparation needed, and it's all on you mid fight - to make the right decisions. And SoS finally has an element of skill in the combat. Practicing each mob to time your hits and defense becomes especially important in Artful Gambit. The challenge mode that's more fun to me than anything I've ever seen in a JRPG.

But people who enjoy JRPG combat variety and complexity at the expense of depth, or just like grinding, tend to hate SoS combat.

It took me thirty hours to get the second ending, and I still have a few things (wheels champions, cooking, quiz bowl) left out hanging to get 100%. I would say it is worth the 35 dollars regular price.

Honestly, no. Get OT2 instead.
