How do you even use Ultimate Attacks?

I just don't understand this mechanic. Serai already has her ultimate but it never allows me to use it... it won't even trigger...

How do you use it?

Hmm, while you're in combat, there's this rainbow colored gauge that fills around the combo meter, once it goes all the way around, you can use ultimate~

Using combo's fills the ultimate gauge. Edit - Individual skills also fill the ultimate gauge.

Probably this. I don't think i've used an ultimate outside a boss fight

Outside of boss battles I've almost never been able to use Combos or Serai's Ultimate.

But there was a few boss battles I managed to use her Ultimate in.

Combos are easier to trigger when you get the artifact that increases combo gain. 10% doesn't seem like a lot, but breaking locks with that on can give you a full point right there. You're probably not triggering 3* combos in normal battles, but 1* and even 2* combos are often possible.

Ultimates are almost never used outside of boss fights. I think I triggered one once in a normal fight and it was at the end, mostly just to use it since the bar was full.

Most combos see no use outside of boss fights. Ultimate will never be used outside of a boss fight because battles don't last long enough and the combo/ultimate meter resets after each battle.
