What? No, how you make a sprite is you animate its idle/movement types and map them out in each direction typically. If the sprites were made by hand for left/right/up/down positions, then Left and Right perspectives should differ. I've played tons of RPGMaker games that don't have the same issue.
Well, its true enough that they admit to it. Though I don't see why they'd just go "the visual inconsistency stays cause we're not going to fix it' - or, that due to how they developed the game, they can't and over-used mirroring techniques to try to reduce the workload.
Oh well, guess that's that.
