Comparisons to Souls and Roguelikes need to stop
TLDR: just what the title says.

Now I am playing on the switch so I can’t comment on the performance of the Steam version. The problem I see most with reviews is trying to lump this game into a genre that it doesn’t fit.

First is the Souls series. The only things even similar to that series is the difficulty. You don’t lose your progress with each subsequent death like in the Souls, but can bring everything and everyone back by completing the dungeon. In Souls games you don’t lose your save file ever but in this game you lose all eight warriors and you have to start over. So to me the comparison to Souls games is pointless other than the difficulty.

Now as for rouge like/lite games. I don’t think that fits either. The dungeons are always laid out the same in this game, it is only the enemies and their placements that change. This means that you can start planning out how you tackle a dungeon before sending in your first warrior to find out how tough it is. Some dungeons are better with slow characters and others for fast ones and spear wielders.

Honestly I am enjoying this game and I see a lot of people passing on it without giving it a try because they don’t like Souls games or Rogues. I think we need to stop the comparisons and treat it as it is something very different.

If anything I would say it is more similar to a Diablo like clone with permadeath turned on.

People are comparing the combat to Souls games because this game uses Souls as a reference point for it's combat. It has slower, committed attacks, dodges, parries, and the bloodbust mechanic is similar to the rally mechanic in Bloodborne. It is floaty at times and no lock-on, but the combat is obviously inspired by Soulsborne games.

The Rouge mechanics are pretty bare bones, but they are there.

Thats like saying "people need to stop comparing games to First Person Shooters" when talking about FPS games.

Also Diablo was a roguelite.

I would compare it more to Torchlight actually, especially Torchlight II. It uses the same kind of graphics as Torchlight and Torchlight II.

Diablo was and is a hack 'n slash rpg and has nothing to do with that roguestuff.

I am a souls player for years. This game is harder, because enemies change with each run (new game). I wish this was in Dark Souls, randomized enemies (without using a mod).
