For some reason it won't let me save my game on steam deck

I've tried numerous other visual novels, including Umineko and Ciconia, and all of them let me save just fine. But for some reason Higurashi, and this chapter in particular won't let me save my game at all. It functions just fine, but the save screen just won't save my game no matter what I try. It makes the clicking noise like it's saving, but it just sits there confirming that I want to save.
