Hex of Steel
Repairing ships on ipad version
I was given help a couple of days ago on a separate issue. I have new ones. I cannot work out how to repair warships, or how to resupply them.
Also, when I entrain units, the AI sometimes doesn't let me unload them. Are there specific locations where units on trains need to be unloaded?
Can I say that the game is the best strategic war game I have ever encountered on iPad and amongst the best of any other games. It would be great if you could produce a first world war game.

I don’t remember exactly if the smaller ones provide the same service or if it is the big ones only
Big ones for sure, smaller ones maybe lower rate of supplies/repair

Regardless, you gotta place your ship on the tile next to it

Units in trains can be unloaded in any urban tile that is owned by you or an ally

The AI has nothing to do with preventing you to deploy units, I think you’re probably not using the right words here

First world war is not as interesting to me as WW2, unfortunately

A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Thanks for this. I have a ship that's stuck at sea, damaged and without fuel. It won't move. How do I get it to Harbour?

For this specific case you have 2 possibilities:

1- Send it back to the reserve using the 'send back to reserve' button on the UI
2- Purchase and deploy a supply ship, and bring it on an adjacent tile to the target ship, and a yellow circle will appear, you can click on your ship and the supplies will be transferred to it
Thanks again!

I have a more significant problem. I have been playing (in an ipad) the entire war scenario – principally the 1941 version where I am Russia, but I have also started playing the 1939 version where, again, I am Russia. The game crashes frequently. I have altered some of the settings. Could that be the reason? Is it an iPad problem? It has reached a point where I have to save the game after every few moves and then eventually I get a message that there is a fault that cannot be repaired and I cannot continue with that particular saved version. Is there anything I can do to avoid this?

How much RAM does your device have? These scenarios require pretty much 2 GB of RAM to run, even after all of the possible optimizations I have done
To me it sounds like a hardware issue where there isn't enough available RAM on the device to run the scenario
Forgive my ignorance, but how do I tell? It's a ninth version iPad with 256gb, 90 used so far. That should be enough, shouldn't it?
I should say that I can't getthrough a single move on the large scenarios – the Russian one I've been describing – without the game crashing. The only way I can play it is to create multiple saves and then to load them up so that I always have a fallback should one of them fail. Some of them bring up a strange error message every now and again – but that is fairly rare.Q

No worries :)
The RAM capacity of the device isn't available from the device so you have to google that one
Your model states 3 GB of RAM (for the iPad 9th Gen), which is I'd say not enough, since the OS still has to run etc
Have you already closed all of the open applications when playing?

I'll do some additional benchmarking and see what comes out of it...
But I'm really running out of things to optimize :(

I haven't closed all the other application applications. I have millions running. That could be the problem! I'd be surprised if the ninth generation is not officially powerful, as it's the second most recent. I also have Much higher memory than average. If mine doesn't work, can't imagine that many would. The game is specifically available on the Apple Store for the iPad. I'll try closing the other applications and see what happens. I absolutely love the game. It's completely brilliant.

Yeah that will definitely have an impact. Please test again and close all of the other applications :)

The device being recent doesn't change what's inside of it nor the requirements the game has :/

I have ran some deep profiling today and this specific scenario (Europe '41) requires 1.7 GB of RAM to play on turn 1
Your device has a maximum available of 3, that leaves 1.3GB for everything else it needs to function normally (OS + other apps)
If you have other apps open, close these as a very first step as that will help running out of memory

Also, after our talk I have looked into a way to allow the game to use more than the default 2 GB (restricted by Apple/iOS) (it may or may not help you specifically since your max RAM is quite low, but will help anyone else with more RAM but getting crashes because the game hit the default maximum allowed by any app of 2 GB)

I have figured out how to do that and implemented it on the iOS version as of 7.7.26, the update has been pushed, it is in review by Apple

So, although the game won't use less RAM, it will be allowed to request more than the default max 2
So, hopefully, the OS doesn't need much to run in the background and you will be able to run the scenario without issues
