why is there aircraft carriers when half the other ships do the same job? am i missing something?

What other ships act as airfields?

Ships which can carry float planes can refuel/rearm one at a time but other than that, I can't think of anything (unmodded of cours)

Hello,

You are probably mixing two things:
- Ships with catapults (can rearm/refuel and spawn floatplanes/seaplanes)
- Actual aircrafts carriers (which can rearm/refuel and spawn actual war planes)

Haha, ahhh I had no idea the design for that series went back that far.

If we're taking their mechanics though, wasn't there one where artillery sitting on a hill gets extra range? Unless I'm thinking of some other game.

Yeah one of those has that extra range for artillery on hills but I can't remember which.
