Finland scenarios and time scale questions
Hello. I'm enjoying the scenario "Europe 1939," playing Poland, wanted to try Finland next. Some questions:

1) Does the research time scale when you edit how many days are each turn, using the map editor? I wanted to try only 4 days per turn in the Europe 1939 game, but wasn't sure if it would screw things up and there would be Tigers rolling out by the end of 1940 if I did that.

2) When playing the Finland Winter War or Continuation scenarios, how many turns does the game last? If neither side seems victorious, does the Winter War end mid-1940 like in real life, or can the game go on indefinitely? Same question with the Continuation War scenario.

3) Is there a way to start earlier in a copy of the Europe 1939 game, like set it to be 1936, and not yet at war? I was tempted to try to save Poland through research before Nazi Germany smashed into her.

Hello there

Great! Played Finland myself live on Youtube yesterday :)

1) Research is based on the time difference between real unit's availability date and current date. Going slower will mess up the research since I calculated it to be based on europe 39 7 days per turn. So setting it to 4 days will indeed bring new tech out of phase from real life. Maybe turn OFF research if you want to change the turn length? I mean, it's one solution

2) Since it's written in the 'Objectives' window, for as long as one side didn't take all major objectives on the map. I could change that, though. Both scenarios go on indefinitely. Unless one side holds all major VPs. Again, can be easily edited in the map editor.

3) 1936? That's some HOI4 date, that will not go well for HoS. I would not go more than a year before, and even a year is a LOT of turns (50 or so?). Not that it isn't possible, just that it will be crazy boring and 150 turns or so is just so much overkill. I mean, try it, but you'll be bored to death before war even starts :) You will have to click on that 'end turn' button more than 150 times before 1939 comes around the corner...
Again, yes, it is possible, but I strongly advise against it since: 1) Not all units have an availability date prior to 1939, so might not even have the possibility to buy anything. 2) It's just SUCH a long time. It doesn't fit the gameplay of HoS
Again, you are free to do whatever you want, it's just the 2 cent from the dev :p
Just make a copy of the europe 39 map and rename it into europe 36 and just edit the map in the map editor :)

Great! Yeah, I was thinking of HOI4 when I thought about the 1936 date. This game is more fun. Adding units with custom graphics is a blast. Now if HOI4 would use THIS game when it needed to have battles, that would be sweet...
I'll take your advice and not try it. Meanwhile, time to defend Poland and Finland... I wish I could limit the Research points each side gets to slow down the tech. Oh well...

Yeah, I know 1936 sounds like a good date when you've played HOI4 but .. There truly is nothing to do outside of war in HoS
Except preparing to it, but 3 years ... way too much time haha
So, maybe set it like early 1939, like January 39 why not, I would really not go more early than that :)
Good luck! And yeah no way to limit that :( Sorry
