I'm going to have to disagree, I've been there since day 1 on OG xbox, I've had the late night system linking 4 xboxs and 4 CRT tv's for 8v8 Blood Gulch CTF on Halo, I was there for the midnight releases of Halo 2, 3, ODST, and Reach. I have more Halo stuff than I can count, from McFarlane figures to 30+ Novels to Multiple special edition xboxs. This ♥♥♥♥ was literally my life, and while I will agree with the average sentiment that Halo 5 was a dumpster fire (MP was great though) Halo 4 is IMO an incredible piece of story, and well worth the cinematic experience. It love it. Its one of my favorites, and I'll die on that hill.
That being said, Halo Infinite MP is free, if you are wanting to play just the multiplayer then by all means just download it, Infinite's MP is really good, I play it most days.
If you want to play the single player story then NOOOO you can't play Halo Infinite without starting at the beginning and going through the rest. You can technically skip ODST or play that at any point after Halo 3 just for extra content and unfortunately you do need to play Halo 5 as well, which does have good action just be prepared to find yourself asking "But where is Master Chief" half of the game. If you dont' have an xbox you can pay for 1 month of game pass on pc for 12 bucks and play it via streaming which should be fine to get the story you need to continue.
