Controller suddenly only works when plugged in?
Xbox Elite Series 2 controller.
Worked fine for months.

Sometime yesterday or day before, it stopped working for Halo Infinite. Game doesn't respond at all to any controller inputs other than pressing the Xbox button to bring up the game bar (which of course it does even with no game booted up too).

I later discovered that when plugged into the USB port, Infinite responds to controller inputs a-ok.

Controller works fine on all other games when unplugged, including MCC. Updated the controller driver using Xbox Accessories app but it says it's up to date.

Restarted computer, verified game files through Steam, no difference.

Infinite is set to run as administrator. Tried to disable that but game won't start. Re-enabled it and game starts again but controller still doesn't work when unplugged.

Anybody else getting this? TIA

Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 . You need this and you wont have anymore issues. I know MicroShill did it this way on purpose to get more money, but works for the most part

Interesting. So are you experiencing this too? Like I said, the controller currently works with all my games when unplugged from the PC's USB port except for Halo Infinite. And before 2 days ago, it worked fine with Infinite when unplugged. I would hope the only solution here isn't buying some device.

Well I'll be damned. How long has yours had this behavior? And is yours Elite Series 2?

Suddenly my controller stopped working altogether. Using a DS4, can't connect either with or without being plugged in. DS4 Windows didn't help either.

Wonder if this is a sign that something in a recent (ie, 3ish day old) update to Halo Infinite was monkeyed with regarding controller inputs that accidentally screwed it up for several people. Hopefully that's the case because I'd figure sooner or later an update would arrive that patched up the problem.

i started having this issue right around the end of the year 2021 right when they release the last week of the year patch for halo. I think it could also be something to do with windows update the very next week JAN, when they rolled out there TUESDAY patches because i began to noticed my PC ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up too. Had to rolled back to a previous system image back up, but it didnt fix anything then i just delt with it really. My PC seems fine now though but the controller issues still persists not being plugged in and withOUT the dongle.

So I just found where you can right click on Halo Infinite in the Steam library, go to properties, controller, and change it from "Use Default Settings" to "Enable Steam Input" and now my controller works with Infinite while unplugged.

Even though, on MCC and all other games, leaving it at the default setting of "Use Default Settings" allows the controller to work just fine unplugged.

Go figure. Still haven't played a match with it. Hopefully it doesn't have some crippling side effect in gameplay/response/etc.

Just played a match. All is well. Give this a shot and see if you can dodge buying a dongle.
