NVIDIA 1060 3GB locked out?
I played this game to completion on microsoft gamepass something like a couple of years ago. I bought it this sale to play it again here with friends and am just hitting a hard crash when I try to open the campaign screen. I thought maybe some updates were being difficult with my specs, but having looked into it, apparently Microsoft/343 patched the game explicitly to lock out my hardware from being able to run it, even though I had the thing running to my satisfaction for an entire playthrough several patches ago.

Do I have this story right? And if so, has anybody found a way around this? Am I really locked out of a game my computer can run perfectly fine? They've just chosen to do this to me and that's it?

I have a 1650 SUPER, play the MP since start and finished the campaign with Game Pass back when released. Was no major issue for me. But now... mostly BTB or Firefight maps the game textures and maybe the whole geometry goes haywire! Even at lowest settings.

I dig up some screenshots, but trees looks like from Quake 2 era and textrues so low res weapon models are unrecognizable and I can see through some envirmental elements. XD

Since the game came out having less than 4GB of VRAM locks you out of playing the game.

Actually 4 GB won't cut even for minimum. XD

Browse local files and locate the folder game/data/hardware. Open GPU_Nvidia, in text editor use the replace function (top left in Edit) to replace all instances of "NotCompatible" with "Low" (No quotes and keep capitalization)

I appreciate the answer, but I already did this. I found two cfg files that contain these references (one for base game and one for campaign) and I went through both of them altering the entries for my system. Looking around online I found a few people saying that they worked something in to stop that specific method.

I'd be willing to try again if you can confirm it's worked recently, but in my very recent experience it didn't. Maybe I did something wrong, didn't get the right file, or all of them, but I think 343 have actually been fairly thorough about this now.

If you really want to play the game again you can consider a GeForce Now subscription. Right now the first month it's half-price.
You can also try Free mode, but thr queue sometiems very long the the basic RIG also a 1060 6 GB, which almost any settings ran worse performance then on ym 1650. Only those weird texture issues won't appear. But Performance subs can run the game at max settings + RT for the MP.
