Would recommend hitting the weapon drills just to get a feel for all the weapons. Play Bot Bootcamp in matchmaking until you get more comfortable with movement and weaponry enough to go back to PvP.
You have 2 health bars. One is shield, which is a flat-all over HP. Hit in the foot, in the eyes, doesn't matter, damage damage (unless it's the sniper rifle). Some weapons rip the shield much faster than others, usually energy weapons. Grenades also tend to smash the shield reliably.
After this shield breaks, you've got body health. This one can be instantly depleted with a headshot, but not all weapons are capable. Off the top if my head, that's the pistol, battle rifle, commando, bandit, shock rifle, mangler, stalker rifle and sniper.
Someone who swaps between plasma pistol and a headshot weapon could have you down in 2.
Try customs Vs bots, or try the firing range, and you can test/trial and error different weapons' damage against Spartans in a controlled environment.
and yes as the above comments stated practice using guns in the range. learn the movement.
desync will still happen from time to time so if you load a clip into somebody and they walk at you and win the fight id say it was desync lol. sometimes youll get killed behind a wall but i havent seen that in a while
