*shrug* finished the pass today and uninstalled. I might dabble again in 6 months and see if anything actually happened or not.

The game needs longer matches

Every massively hyped game peaks at its release and then falls off to a mostly stable playerbase over the course of its life until it starts slowly dropping more and more as the game ages.

Halo Infinite is not “dying”. Halo Reach lasted for the vast majority of its lifespan with less than 10,000 concurrent players on average, Infinite continues to average several times that and peaks in the top 10 most played games on all of steam.

It’s not going anywhere any time soon, no matter how much people’s confirmation bias might want it to be otherwise.

That you play to finish a battlepass is exactly the issue.
I wouldn't have given a ♥♥♥♥ if it wasn't there at all.
The forced progression systems in current games are pure cancer imo.
The only progression should be in noticing how you become better at the game.
No need for stupid rewards.

The majority of people who play are american. At around 12:30am my time the population goes to around 55,000. When games come out their pop decreases and then stays around a certain number so my guess is that halo infinites pop will stay at around 50,000 or 40,000.

Also its holidays, I would think lot of people are just travelling to relatives and Halo cant really be played on weaker notebooks unlike other popular online games.

CSGO is coming up on its TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY and it has 720,000 people playing it right now. Free or not..... THE FACTS ARE THE FACTS

ITS DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD

1.) Halo's core player base is and more or less always has been in the US. "Right now," it's 0730 EST, meaning the CST zone is just waking up (if they're going to work), the Mountain zone is probably cursing their alarm clocks and slapping the snooze button, and the PST zone is still dead asleep.

It's also a working week; while plenty of people will take NYD off to nurse hangovers, the vast majority of Americans who are not in sectors like education (go go winter break!) will be working right up until NYE--so if they're not in bed, they're either on their way to work, finishing a shift, or on their way home from the same.

Weird how that keeps player population suppressed.

2.) CSGO is a bad point of comparison. It has an excellent multi-national playerbase, which Halo does not (again, tends to be concentrated in the US; the franchise never really caught on the same way in the EU/UK region, and it never had much of a chance in Asia because the XBox--where it originally landed--has never done good numbers in that area). You're effectively comparing apples to oranges whilst shouting "they're both fruit, so it's totally valid!"

3.) As much as Infinite's F2P design is new for the franchise (and, I'd argue, a detriment to it--but that's a different problem for a different thread), the game itself is very much a continuation of the same design philosophies and principles that informed CE, 2, 3, etc--it's an arena shooter, right down to its bones, with the commensurately lengthy TTK and power weapon acquisition that goes along with that genre.

Arena shooters aren't what's hot right now. CSGO isn't an arena shooter (see also: loadouts, etc.), nor is Fortnite, Apex Legends, or any of the other current popular shooters.

The problem with comparing new titles following legacy design principles to new titles following current trends within the industry is, again, tantamount to screaming "but they're both fruit, so this is totally valid!"

It's not a good look.

So, sure, Infinite isn't bringing back Halo's previous levels of popularity, but it's also not 2007 anymore, and never will be again. The general gamer zeitgeist has shifted, younger folks are now dictating industry trends (as opposed to the middle-aged folks like me who were in college when CE launched), and the world keeps turning. It's not functionally dissimilar to the dissolution of arena rock's popularity, or the gradual shift toward Michael Bay-style flashy action flicks over anything with actual substance.

Time, people, and tastes move on. It's the way of the world.

But let's not let little things like that get in the way of a dogged adherence to raw (and Steam-only, I should note) numbers absent context, thus demonstrating an absolutely facile grasp of how statistics function and are interpreted.

Nah. Just so much easier--and clearly more intelligent--to shout "gaem ded" over and over again until it comes true, then claim victory by dint of early prediction.

Mate don't make up stuff you cannot back up. NA Players have nothing to do with a shrinking playercount. It's counted for the last 30 days.

Even WITH normal player fallout.... between how big this game is and the fact that we hadn't had a halo game in 6 years.... and how many people were interested in it... AND the fact that its less then a month old..... IT SHOULD STILL HAVE 200,000 PEOPLE PLAYING IT EASILY if it was any good..... this game has lost LITERALLY 95% OF ITS INITIAL PLAYERBASE........ STOP YOUR COPIUM.

you're objectivle wrong, since it has crossplay.

Like I said stop lying to yourself. Stay mad. THE FACTS ARE THE FACTS.

Nobody's actually angry; it's just that this insistence on using Steam-only numbers for a game that also is available through the Microsoft store and on the XBox--where its primary player base resides--is really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ funny.

It's like "look! Look at my galaxy brain! I refuse to acknowledge any statistics that might throw my argument into question, but anyone who disagrees with me is a moron!"

And "stay mad" coming from the guy who put Capslock on cruise control in a previous post is just...I dunno, dude, I think Alanis might owe you some royalties over that absolute abuse of irony.
