That said, gravitate towards weapons that suit you. Something like the plasma beam thing requires you to track your target perfectly- not a good choice if you have shaky aim. Splash damage type weapons like the rocket launcher and ravager are easy to hit with. Gravity hammer and plasma sword are also easy to hit with, but you have to be close. Pair either with the thruster or grappleshot and zoom towards the enemy and whack them before they have a chance to shoot you.
And every gun requires a different type of aiming skill. Some, like Mangler or Skewer, have bullets that will drop off quicker than say the pistol or sniper rifle. And they fire slower. Sniper rifle you can get a hit almost instantly from across the map. Skewer you need to lead a moving target and shoot where you think they will be. If you like to aim zoomed in, battle rifle or pistol are very effective when zoomed.
Etc. You really just need to keep playing and get a feel for the game. Having a good gaming mouse helps, experiment with the sensitivity you like. You'll get better as you go.
What you instead should focus on, is learning the game. Players that use the radar, grenades, good positioning or a two weapon combo usually can outplay someone with better aim.
For example 1 charged plasma shot + 1 headshot with pistol > battle rifle 4 shots.
Plasma shot practically seeks its target, and a pistol shoots faster than a battle rifle so you have some margin for error.
Either that or use a controller.
The other big consideration with mouse speed isn't aiming, but movement and looking around. Awareness of the environment is key and with a high speed you can whip around fast to keep an eye on what's around you. Though your aiming accuracy will suffer, so its all about finding a balance. Seeing the enemy first is a big, big advantage. If they don't know where you are shooting at them from and with what weapon, it puts less pressure on aiming accuracy.
This is true, but you have to account for needing to switch weapons, which adds some complexity to it
Also, to OP: Focus on body shots first, then a headshot to finish them off once their shields are down. Though I find that with the more accurate weapons its easier to just aim for the head the whole time. (Aside: I've gotten one-shotted by a battle rifle headshot before, which I don't think should be possible. So maybe a cheater? I don't know much about cheating tactics though.)
Consider switching to fingertip grip if you're not holding your mouse like that already
Get a good mouse, consider switching to 1600 dpi (lower input lag)
Find the right sensitivity for you, this can be tricky but once you do, consider using sensitivity converters so you're consistent in all the games you play aside from halo.
But the most important part is practice

in team gamemodes know when to attack or retreat. try avoid getting outnumbered by the enemy especially 3vs1, if outnumbered and seen retreat, if not seen wait for teammates to arrive to you or go to them so you don't get outnumbered.
if the top player on your team has high kills and low deaths follow them and study how they play the game, how they move, fight, etc. maybe you will notice something they're doing that will help you get more kills and play better.
This can help you to get lucky hits but its nothing one should get used to
solid general fighting tips
This
A few hints on top of that
there are in shooters two types of weapons
hitscan and projectile
the first needs your crosshair to be on the target - good examples are the beam andthe assault rifles
you do not need to account for enemy movement, just have your crosshair locked on the target and pull the trigger
the second one is in this game (most) plasma weapons, rocket launchers, grenade launchers, skewers and some other projectiles
projectiles are actually physically in the world and damage the enemy if they collide with the hitbox
as actual 'physical' entities they have a speed and sometimes ballistic behaviour (grenades falling down)
those weapons are generally a it harder since you have to account for the movement of your enemy, which is generally rewarded with the weapons beeing somewhat stronger (or having other advantages like bouncy shots, explosions ...)
A controller isn't a crutch. The only people who think like this are the same people stuck in bronze - plat ranks. Gotta blame something besides yourself for why you lose all the time.
Granted M+Kb is better but I think for some they generally can get more out of a controller.
