Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks the cat ears are really stupid
It's such a minor thing to complain about, but yeah the cat ears were just a really stupid and dorky cosmetic item to add to the game. Kind of ruins the immersion in a sense. Maybe part of my frustration comes from the fact cat ear players are usually annoyingly good, lol

Edit: Was not expecting to start a whole ass war in the comments. I also didn't even realize furries were still a thing until after I made this post

Edit 2: Just let this post die already. What I said wasn't profound in any way and isn't worth wasting your time getting angry over.

you know what else is really stupid? replacing the human head of a spartan with a skull. Or adding a unicorn horn to a helmet. Or giving Spartans a color scheme that doesn't fit with military operations or environmental conditions.

This whole series is full of dumb aesthetics. It's fun.

Correction: ♥♥♥♥ that 343i Added to the game that is dumb.
All the ♥♥♥♥ thats in the MCC like Skulls and Old Warrior Helms were the work of 343i.
Not the original developers of those games.

THE MOST that Bungie ever added to the game that was eccentric and colorful were the Helmet Effects In Reach, and Arguably the Katana in 3.

And in those cases, the Helmet effects were ♥♥♥♥ you had to earn by playing games, and not ♥♥♥♥ that you could spend $20s in the store on.
And the Katana was a reward for Achievement hunting.
As proof that you spent over 100 Hours in the Campaign playing missions over and over to earn it.

As for the colors?
They were a critical part of the Aesthetic flourish in their original games.
Everything was bright and colorful in multiplayer. On maps that we're mainly muted in color.
Enemy spartans and team mates stood out against the landscapes.
The Colors being as bright as they were to give each player a distinct design silhouette.

The color choices weren't for lore, they were for game play balance.

Vs... Infinite.
The maps are more colorful.
But the basic spartan armor is dull as ♥♥♥♥ and pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ boring to look at now.
Which, I don't really agree with. As not only did it castrate customization options that were a staple part of the series, but they also now expect people to buy them for $5 minimum Transactions.

again, what did bungie do besides the older samurai armor and the flaming effects?
Nothing, because you just listed exactly what they did that was worse than 2 triangles that resemble cat ears.

Also it wasn't "older samurai armor" it was Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden, with a katana on his back, I'd say that's a little "out there"

Then let's not get into how they double down on armor effects in Reach.

Imagine thinking a sword is more out of place that cat ears XD You absolute weeb.

Op look at what you did, are you proud or disappointed at humanity?

If there is disappointment, it should look back at them from their mirror; they knew they weren't the only one, and they knew what they were doing, despite their protestations.

The only alternative is that they've been living under a rock, and missed the 500 other "I'm just asking questions about cat ears, guis" threads we've had over the last month or so--and I'm not sure ignorance is a sufficient excuse here.
It doesn't fit in the game like the hayabusa in halo 3.

It doesn’t need too “fit the game” I’m surprised people are still debating this.

Given that the Hayabusa (an armor for a fictional character no historically accurate ninja would ever have worn) is the point of comparison, I don't think they're debating--I think they're saying fairly clearly "things I like are okay; things I don't are not."

If the argument is that if it fits with the setting then yes, cat headphone ears do not fit or give the spartan a tactical advantage.

Neither does a weapon (katana) that is made for cutting flesh, and tends to blunt its edge on ceramic armor on upward.

But at least the katana is a weapon and hayabusa comes from a warrior, and weapons not being used while being carried by a warrior has been a thing.

This is such a ridiculously weaksauce argument.

It comes from a fictional warrior, and the sole purpose of including it in the game was cross-promotion for another property Microsoft was leaning hard into at the time. There is no historical antecedent anywhere for ninja wearing armor (they came from peasant stock, and dressed specifically to avoid attracting attention; pretty much every representation of them we get in modern media is way the hell off), and it doesn't even fit patterns for known samurai armor, either.

And carrying a weapon you're not actively using is one thing. Carrying a weapon that has no potential for serving a practical purpose against the enemy you're faced with is not--particularly because it adds load and alters the target silhouette, making them easier to track.

So, yeah, no, the "it comes from a warrior" doesn't pass the sniff test.

Given that the cat ears can easily be visually understood as exhaust or intake ports on the helmet (they're literally modeled after shapes already present in Chief's armor, if you look at the design plates), they're *less* obtrusive than a useless katana or fantasy ninja armor that was inserted into the game solely to encourage players to consider buying another game related to a property Microsoft was leaning on.

But the point isn't conformity to the game's aesthetic, is it? That's never been the point of using Hayabusa as a counter to the cat ears.

The Hayabusa armor was even made to fit into the halo 3 art style. And warrriors carrying weapons as either decoration or not in use has been a thing in fiction. Most western players know the ninja for having a "distinct" look and don't know that ninja usually dressed as commoners or whoever to disguise themselves. Halo in itself is a fantasy game, it's only now that the mmo dress your character to look like however they want has kicked in affecting games like halo and other shooters.
