Challenge System Suck
I'm sorry but after doing so many matches this whole challenge system sucks, for both the pass and the event. Can't we just earn stuff for playing the game and not doing specific crap?

Considering MCC, Reach, and 5 had performance based XP that was miserably slow to grind, about 3x as long as the intended 100 hours for Infinite's battle pass, I'd say no.

Opening with a non-performance based XP system is a lot better considering it opens the door for them to make one that actually launches out of the gate in a solid state with the telemetry they'll gain from it, which I'm pretty sure they've already confirmed they're doing.

I am too and I'm only like 25. I really want the event stuff but I just can't force myself to do these challenges.

Yeah its garbage.
It forces artificially grinding that is almost completely unnecessary.
You can't just play game modes you like to make progress.

Like if given the option, I would NEVER in my life touch Stronghold or Oddball.
Those are modes that are unfairly dominated by people in teams, or with voice chat.
Where as I only play as a Solo.
Their not fun to play when you come across disgustingly sweaty teams.

I miss Reach's progression system alot, earning credits was such a good system.
I could choose the armors and helmets I wanted to unlock, instead of having to force myself to log in every day to not miss out on a daily bonus.

Some armors took a while to earn, but, that was the point.
I was earning it, working towards the armor set THAT I wanted.
And I could do it while playing any game mode I wanted.
And then after I got the armor I was aiming for, I could then spend my extra credits unlocking extra stuff.

You got double credits for playing the weekly action sacks too.

It was such a friendly system towards player choice,
you were never "scarcity" baited into spending time/money on ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid limited time events.

343i is really mishandling Halo.
They have been mishandling halo since 4.

Never forget,
They had p2w lootboxes in Halo 5.

It's amazing how you've nitpicked so much you've decided to purposefully leave out all of the flaws of the Reach system, like the slow rates, the fact that getting everything easily takes you around 300 hours, daily limits, the stupid slot machine, etc.

The concept of Reach's system was great. If they had that and just made all the adjustments to what you just said, everything would be perfect.

Except you didnt need to get everything, just the stuff you wanted.

The problem therein lies, people would just rather get everything at a pretty fast rate, especially considering how much people lost their ♥♥♥♥ over a cosmetic that they didn't even want in the first place being a higher price than what they'd particularly want to pay for.

Slow rates are completely irrelevant when the Game play loop is great.

Plus the game doesn't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ drop feed you stripped down content.
Are you seriously trying to imply that 300 is a lot? Have you serious not ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ played the game when it launched?

Im not talking about MCC, that ♥♥♥♥ is garbage.
But the Original Halo Reach.

When the game Originally Launched,
I got my First Achievements in
9/13/2010.

My Last Recorded Achievement
was in 5/6/2012

I played Halo Reach for AT LEAST 2 Years.
Even if I'm playing only 1 Hour a day. (Which of course I'm not)
Over the course of 2+ years? That is more than 700 Hours of play time IF NOT MORE.

Why?
The game play cycle was good.
The community was great.
I made alot of online friends, and helped build a bunch of maps.
The developers showcased the best built community maps.

You could literally play for hours, jumping between radically different modes.

Daily Limits Literally meant nothing.
You could simply play until you got tired of playing, and put the game down for the day.
It was a soft limit on endlessly grinding, and was a good reason to play whatever you needed too for that day.

The game was not constantly baiting you to keep playing because
"oh no you're just 5 kills short of completing this next challenge. You should play another round of a mode you don't like!"

The Slot machine was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ BRILLIANT.
It was a REWARD for not just abandoning losing games.

It didn't cost you anything,
And rewarded you MORE for playing game modes that you liked consistently.

Honest to god, I don't think you actually ever player Halo Reach when it was released.
Its like you just looked it up on Wikipedia.
The Progress system in Reach was the Best in the series,
None of its systems were predatory and it was all about giving you small rewards every chance you got.

Like, just for a comparable Steam reference,
I have 400 Hours in TF2.
A game that doesn't ever really reward you.

I played it because its Loop was fun, and it had fun silly servers.
I could actually talk with people and follow them to games I wanted to play.

A good game has a good Game play loop, and rewards you for having fun in it.

I can't really have fun when I have to hope to get a certain game mode or hope the enemy is doing better than me just to get limited time content.

Slow rates are totally relevant, especially considering you're getting butthurt over missing out on daily bonuses.

I really don't care that you want to jerk off Reach, mostly because you're being blissfully unaware that everyone on Bungie.net was bashing the game as you are now to Infinite, except they actually considered the gameplay loop bad, not the monetization model.

Daily limits were a hard cap that forced you to stop playing too much, which on paper doesn't sound like a bad idea, until you throw the fact that the game has a miserably slow progression speed to boot, thus it just ends up getting padded out for no reason other than that they're afraid people would get bored of Halo 3 but half of the gameplay elements are RNG.

Challenges are goaling you towards playing different modes, the fact that you think challenges exist to get you to play exponentially more, which is not true, especially considering that again, Reach took at least 3x as long as Infinite's progression track.

The slot machine was genuinely the worst thing about that game's entire ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ progression system, instead of a match bonus XP, you get to spin the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wheel to have a chance to get a decent match bonus.

I'm really getting the feeling you only played Reach when you were like 11, and think that it's the best Halo game ever to exist because that's the one you like, and clearly the older folks didn't get it, and the younger folks don't get it either.

This has probably been stated to you a million times, but again, people were bashing it just as much on Bungie.net, ever wonder why people weren't exactly losing their minds that it wasn't on the MCC until like, 2019?

Because by 2014, the general idea about Reach was that it was still just a sub-par spinoff that failed by trying too many new things and failed to make the fundamentals fun because of it.

Man the ultimate challenge for this week has me legitimately disappointed. The challenge is "stop enemy killing sprees 3 times". Does the team responsible for these challenges even understand the affects these challenges have on gameplay? This challenge means I have to let the enemy team win. I have to hope and pray my team doesn't kill them frequently enough, and I have to check the enemy K/D to know when its time to pop out and try my luck at getting to them. There are only disrespectful words that can properly describe the decision making behind these challenges, because not only did I spend money on the battle pass and campaign, I was forced to lose my matches, time, and brain cells trying to understand why anyone would consider this to be fun. It is a really stupid design on 343's part. Like why do I gotta lose at the game to get XP and a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Makes me just not want to play.
