Just started my Career but can't even get through practice...why?
I am using all the defaults. On my practice laps I am supposed to get a 10:45 but no mater what I do I can only get bout a 11:27. My car is way too slow and I can't see me ever getting even close to a 10:45 lap. And I am driving pretty well...full throttle, slight slide through the turns.

What am I doing wrong?

Try turning down the AI difficulty; it affects the practice goal time.

The practice goal time is a good way to tell if you're on the right difficulty. It should be challenging to get, but definitely attainable.

Great! That is great help! Than you!

That said. If I wanted to keep the difficulty, is there another way to attain that 10:45 time?

It is attainable. What difficulty were you set at? If you were on Legend, you may be able to tune your car in the garage to help get closer, but I don't know that tuning setups is required.

I was playing on whatever the default is. I didn't change anything. I just started new career and it was the first try with first car on first track,

Try going to your Career Settings and turning the AI difficulty down a notch. I believe it also may depend on your sponsor bonus challenge in Career mode. It tries to give an idea of how well you would need to race at that track to meet your sponsor bonus goal. So if you chose a more difficult sponsor bonus, the practice time will be more challenging to hit. But it should be doable.

You may also want to see if there are any videos online that give tips for how to drive the particular track you're on.

At this early point in my career is it possible to tune my car? I went into the garage and I didn't see anything that I could do to change things (I was hoping for a way to change gear ratio).

You can only tune your car if your Driving Aids are set to Hard or higher. Go to Career Settings, and select the Driving tab. Change the Driving Aids preset at the top.

Now, at the at-track menu, you'll see a slider with a prompt to adjust it. If you press that button, you can move the slider from "tighter" to "looser", and you'll also see options for "Custom Race" and "Custom Qualify" where you can dive into the nitty gritty (including gear ratio).

Just be prepared for a more challenging drive when you turn driving aids down.

yeah im the same started a career went straight to sprint cars because tq and other couldnt get any where on the easiest a,i just fly past me dont even know how they can go so much faster than me its pathetically hard and unplayable.damn wish i got a refund quick.

Do you have driving aids turned on? If you're not used to racing on dirt, these cars can be hard to drive. Start with driving aids on and easy AI, and go from there. I'd also recommend starting in the midgets; they're much easier to drive.

Also, in career, you aren't supposed to do well initially. You start on a brand new team with limited funding. You have to build your car up and work your way up through the standings. A lot of people don't win a race until the second or third season. Set your personal goal to be trying to accomplish your sponsor bonus challenge, rather than winning the race.

I looked into how things work a bit and need to make a small correction to what I said. In career mode, the practice goal time is based on your sponsor bonus goal, not the difficulty. Everything else I said still stands: you shouldn't expect to dominate when you're starting out. Pick a sponsor goal that is realistic and work your way up.

In quick race, you can use the practice goal time to help judge if you have the AI set to the right difficulty. If it's challenging to hit, but doable, you're probably set to have some good, competitive races.

1. How do I change/select my sponsor goals?
2. And how do I do that for practice?

You're presented with a choice of a sponsor goal at the beginning of the season and whenever you complete or fail at the goal. It's usually something like "Finish in 20th or better in at least 3 of the next 5 races".
