I found that caring for multiple animals is a lot of stress. I typically handle adoptions in "waves" or all in bulk. I only do puppies and kittens as it's much easier to care for them (bathing them only requires wiping with cleaning cloth and you can fit 5 in the same pen), but it is very doable with dogs and cats.
1. Adopt all puppies and kittens in bulk (I have 4 puppy/kitten cages)
2. As the puppies and kittens are dropped off by the van, I will take care of each in this order
- Transport to the clinic - they are treated then cleaned.
- Drop them off into their cages and pet them until they are completely happy
- Repeat until all dogs and cats are in cages.
Eventually, they will be happy enough to adopt out.
3. Assign each one to a new owner and send them off. There are normally lots of people asking for kittens and puppies so I just pick one and assign it to a puppy or kitten. I don't take too long looking at the traits as you get ~100 reputation for each one anyway.
4. Clean and fill up all water and bowls and prepare for the next bulk adoption.
Sometimes there are stragglers that need more time to be put up for adoption. It's almost impossible for me to do this without the "wave" method because it is a lot to juggle without a plan. You can use the time that there are no animals at the shelter to clean, organize and decompress.
Of course, if you have the Vet DLC, it is much harder to do this in a streamlined manner as getting samples and curing takes more time. In this case, I have multiple clinic tables that I will keep animals on as they are being treated and as I am taking more animals in. I would also suggest a separate group of pens that hold the sick animals as they wait for the cure cooldown.
Hope this helps!
