Also keep in mind that looking at the stat-comparison chart, the gun being switched-to is automatically counted as using the 'default' ammo, which, in the case of the M4 and Mk18 is the 'base' M855 ammo, only meant to be used in the M16, and which has strongly increasing penalties over range in the very-short barrel Mk18, and also with only the default 'iron sight' attached(or, I believe, the 'default' 4x scope in the case of Marksman weapons).
If you're comparing your already-functional M4 with holo-sight or LPVO to the Mk18 in the selection screen(with no attachments and the wrong ammo), it's little wonder that it looks awful.
That said, given how crit-instakill-centric late-game Rangers seem to be, I'm wondering if the M4 actually is the better choice in the end, because it can properly run M855A1 ammo, which starts with 10% higher crit than the Mk318 SOST.
for ar, the range for medium attack type would be mutch better: "step forward 2m more" isn't trivial.
p.s.
alt+right drag, xml files, or my guide is what I trust.
P.P.S.
The chart could be more meaningful if dev recieved a suggestion from a handsome guy 2 years ago.
