Trying to understand the Nightvision icons
Hello! Just picked up the game. I'm on the training mission where you first use NVG's. I put the NVG's on everybody and when they start the mission outside in the dark they have a blue sun diamond icon with a slash through it. The slash would indicate to me that they are not working? Or maybe the slash means the sun is gone. I'm assuming this is a good icon. When I move near the fuse panel to cut the lights the icon goes red. Does this mean they cannot really see in the light? Or does it just mean the NVG's are turned off and they do it themselves?

Thanks

Hi, the blue icon means that they are concealed. Red icon, soldiers are visible.

To be most clear, the icon warns you if the 'ambient' light around the unit is bright enough for any units without night vision to able to see them clearly.

There is frequently lighting near outside fuseboxes, so the icon turns red because you're near that light, which would make you visible to anyone looking in that direction.
ah ok, thanks for the responses! So these guys can go into a building with lights on and be fine? They don't get blinded with NVG's on or anything? I guess they would just switch them off.

I hear of players just having the NVG's on all of the time regardless of day or night

Exactly. No need to manage NVG.

Does it not impact their field of vision, thus best to remove during daylight?

Yes. Always take your NVGs off for daytime missions. It does affect your unit's performance.

NVGs do have a movement debuff during day + night ops, but it's negligible with PVS-31s (no move debuff, -1% turn speed)
NVGs will only decrease ur FOV during night ops
i would just rush PVS-31s and keep the NVGS on at all times tbh
the PVS-14 is free but it also has a noticeable speed debuff (-3% move, -2% turn)

Thanks for the reply =) Is there a resource that shows all these hidden modifiers for the equipment?

It does but it's doubtful that you'll notice. Nor is it worth the effort of changing them out. (The top tier NVG that is)
Personally Rangers always wear NVG even on daytime missions.
They flip it up so the goggles don't affect the FOV (90deg, 0.6m peripheral vs 70deg, 0.42m) IIRC.
Its weight harms, but only 1% of turn speed. Tribial IMO.
From my quick test, -30% needs more 100-200ms to turn 90deg, but only 1% is hard to be aware of.

If you want to take it off by aesthetic reasons, or are greedy to get every single marginal benefit, so you can. But I don't.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DoorKickers2\data\equipment\head_attachments.xml
The directory also has all of the vanilla equipment.
