Cannot picking locks with Rangers?
After this update, Rangers cannot pick the locks silently. Is it kind of bug or something?

Its a limitation we decided a while ago for Rangers, but only now implemented.

So, is there no silent way to pass locked doors with Rangers?

At the moment, no, you'll create a bit of commotion BUT keep in mind that the Manual Breach options (Crowbar or Dynamic Hammer) are not that loud, 12m sound radius. The Hammer in particular is a one hit, one sound solution.

For Padlocks, the Torch will solve it with just 6m of sound radius, not bad.

Rangers create a bit of commotion in action, but it can be localized to alerting people in that structure only. The CIA are able to keep stuff even more silent, but they need to work hard in case things go wrong.

Are there any other differences between the hammer and the crowbar? What would make me choose one over the other?

The crowbar is available by default to all Rangers and doesn't need to be equipped. The Hammer takes up your backpanel equipment slot and reduces mobility / concealment, but is much better IMO esp. against regular doors. It hits the door and its open, so if the sound alerts enemies, it may be too late for them already.

Since the rangers no longer have lock picks but still have silenced pistols, I was reminded of a joke about a Russian spy:
"Stirlitz kicked in the door and tiptoed over to Mueller reading the newspaper."

A way to unlock doors without opening them for rangers would be very nice, which is primarily what I used the lockpicks for

Not being able to gain entry to a locked area in a more stealthy manner is unrealistic and more importantly it is NOT fun! you need some way to be more stealthy if it is not going to be with a lockpick the hammer, crowbar and the torch just do not cut it.

I would urge you to reconsider your stance on this devs.

I've been wondering this myself for a while, thanks for the info. Couldn't we get bolt cutters so that rangers could at least pass by padlocks silently?

So one guy carries the hammer for doors, and another guy carries the bolt cutters for locks..

You WILL get the bolt cutters once we implement them, as well as the Breaching Kit that contains both the Hammer and the Bolt Cutters.
