Does anyone know how to fix this? I can't play Battlefield 3 or Hardline due to it. BF4 actually works through Battlelog, though.

I had to get Battlefield Hardline removed from my EA account through EA support chat, and it now lets the Steam version work fine.

it happens the same to me, how do you say you fixed it?
so you bought this game twice, first time in the origin/ea launche and now in steam. But the origin key was activated in your account and you couldn't play it? so they had to remove the one from origin & now you can access it from steam? but what happens if you want to play the origin version in a future?

I had it through EA Play, and they needed to remove it from my account there. If you want to play it on your Origin account again if you bought it, you'd just need to contact support again and have them reactivate it.
Wait. So if it says "UPDATE REQUIRED. YOU NEED TO INSTALL OR PATCH THE GAME BEFORE PLAYING." It's because EA has to remove access of Hardline from my EA account (due to Ea Play) so then it can recognize I own the game on Steam ?

I appreciate your time. I just talked with someone named Pawan2 on EA Support. He just told me "I have removed the Game keys from the EA account and now only the game version you have on Steam is active".
Asked him again to confirm & he told me "Don't worry. I have already disabled the game on your EA account Now the content you are seeing is from the linked Steam account."

When I try to launch BFH the same "UPDATE REQUIRED" thing keeps appearing. Maybe because I own the game in both platforms?

Contact them again and ask. I had to do it multiple times.

BTW which browser are you using? Cause I've read someone saying that you need to use a browser compatible with Battlelog Web Plugin and ESN Sonar API

The Battlelog Web Plugin doesn't exist anymore, so no you don't.
Didn't know that, thanks. But IIRC Hardline can only be launched through the battlelog web browser thing

It can, it just doesn't use the plugin nor ESN Sonar API anymore.

Did you need to reinstall the EA App or anything else? Or just have Hardline removed from your EA account? I own it on both. Just bought it on Steam today because I want it in my Steam library. Bought it from EA a month ago. Do you recall which EA help topic you chose?

Just had an EA chat rep remove it from my EA Store account. Game launches now. Thanks!
what did you say to EA specifically? I told them twice & they answered both times with the same message: "Done, I've just removed access from your account, so now only your steam games will work". But I'm still having the "YOU NEED TO INSTALL OR PATCH THE GAME BEFORE PLAYING." bug, and I've already installed punkbuster and all that sort of Stuff. I tried with both the current EA App & the old Origin app. (with this patch [github.com]to get it working)
