rpgfan4567: Glad to see, or is that not glad to see I'm not alone with this. My controller behaves just like you described and the analogs too.
I did find this in a patch note. Don't know if it is related:
"The new default PlayStation Controller behavior where Steam Input was enabled in games without PS controller support store tags will now only be active on games that have filled out the survey to say they do not have PS Controller support. This will be revisited when there is better coverage for the PS controller data."
Been playing 3 years trouble free with this controller (PS4), hoping to find a solution.
you need to turn of Steam input for this game and since Battlefield 3 works well with an Xinput controller you can use DS4windows app to make your PS controller register as an Xbox controller, I think Steam can also make your controller register as an Xinput (xbox) controller, I don't use a controller with Steam games so I can't give you more info. as far as I've tested Battlefield 3 natively works well with an Xbox controller (there is no aim assist) when Steam input is off for Battlefield 3.
The DS4Windows app did the trick. All is well and working fine, happy BF3 gamer again :)
