I like BF3's gunplay, graphics, and maps more than BF4's, but all the good servers are in eu, so my ping is in those games is trash. If you're in eu, you'll be able to enjoy more map variety and more servers overall.
BF4 is pretty fun though, you can't go wrong with either game, just know that BF4 has a bigger population. As for the sale, I guessed you missed the one that was going on for 2 weeks or something. Don't know which the next one will be, my guess is the one in the winter.
+ slower gamepace
+ better gunplay
+ US Medic starting weapon is one of the best in the game
+ (mostly) good maps
- Battlelog
- most servers are Metro ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ or TDM
- most players are veterans, especially when it comes to jets and helicopters
- some weapons are locked behind a Coop-mode that isn't working for years now
BF4
+ populated servers
+ 5 man squads with VoIP
+ commander
+ improved medic system
- Battlelog
- fast gamepace
- little to no cover for infantry on most maps/maps are empty
- vertical gameplay
- quite dark most of the time (BF3 night maps are brighter than some indoor areas on day BF4 maps)
- a lot to unlock but most of it feels more like a gimmick than actually useful stuff
- lootboxes and lootbox exclusive equipment
- getting points for everything you do
However if you've never played 3, getting used to its clunkiness, older netcode, weird UI and several other shenanigans that DICE never bothered to fix, 4 might be a much smoother experience to get into.
That said, like mentioned above, BF3 has subjectively superior maps and gunplay, which is enough for me to prefer it.
4 has mostly bigger maps but they're much less tightly designed, often aiming for scale and visuals, which leads to more chaos.
Also there's way, WAY more gadgets in BF4, meaning you'll be getting killed by stuff that you had no chance to counter. Which, again, still happens in BF3, but much less due to it being more of a 'man-on-man-on-vehicle' experience.
BF4 has remakes of 4 of them.
keep talking
Given the amount of complaints about that on Steam forums I'm willing to bet it's an issue exclusive to the Steam version of the game because I'm playing it without issue on my Origin version.
BF4, while it made a TON of quality of life improvements, severely lacked in the level design department because BF4 maps were made by artists first and level designers second, and it was the other way around in BF3.
Not that all BF3 maps are perfect, but BF4 had nothing on them until some latter DLCs.
BF4 also disappointed me with weapons and gadgets. There's more of everything, but the insane amount of gadgets leads to a ludicrous amount of indirect kills and deaths, while BF3 was all about direct man engagements.
And most weapons just lack identity. Heck even the AN-94 which used to have the unique burst fire mode with 2 bullets landing in the same spot now just has regular burst fire. And I never enjoyed the gunplay as much, although that's subjective.
where's the hate? or is having a different opinion to yours makes it hate? sounds like you're just trying to stir up some turmoil mate.
play whichever BF you like, both are great games, and if you don't enjoy BF3 I can't make you enjoy it. I'm only pointing out some of your statements that are blatantly untrue.
Armored Shield is a bit too open for my taste, and barely any servers run Death Valley. Probably because after all the backlash to BF3's blue filter DICE decided to double down and make a dark blue map that just strains the eyes.
