Burnout Paradise, THE GAME, is great. It is the pinnacle of late-2000s arcade racing games and the swansong of this defunct genre. It is pure, unadulterated, dumb fun that I cannot stop playing for the life of me, it might just be one of the best videogames ever made, realistically speaking, it ticks all the boxes you'd ever have for an arcade racing game.

Burnout Paradise, THE REMASTER, sucks balls. It's EA being a stupid company, as they always do. Sometimes I think they get off at doing it. Here's what's wrong: It is tied to Origin/EA Launcher/EA App/whatever this week's name is, EVEN WHEN YOU BUY IT ON STEAM WITH THE INTENTION OF PLAYING IT ON STEAM, it runs worse than the old Ultimate Box edition on the same hardware because of EA App hogging resources on the background and it will actually crash if you close EA App, it misses two very good licensed songs from the original because of licensing issues (yes, EA, a multi-billion dollar company, refusing to pay what for them are essentially peanuts for a couple of songs), there is barely any noticeable change in textures compared to the OG version, In some instances new textures look worse, and worst of all, you need to do circus numbers to get it running on Linux. This game plays amazing on a Steam Deck, but you need to do some very intricated tinkering to get it working (go on the ProtonDB page for the game, everything's already figured out, just do as instructed), but for Christ's sake, EA had to put a single damn line of code in a .INI file to fix the issue, and they couldn't even be bothered doing that. Literally finishing your work for you, EA.
Only positives are the fact that online is back (for a while, before they shut down these servers too), the Big Surf Island DLC is finally officially on PC (it's a bit mid tho), and modding contents back into the game is easy-ish. You can load the uncensored songs into the game and you can replace the new fake ads with the original licensed in-game ads, this game ain't the same without Nvidia and Vizio promoting their ♥♥♥♥ as you slam into a wall at 300 km/h in slo-mo. Only issue is, again, on Linux, on Deck you cannot install the community bugfixes and proper gamemods don't run, so you cannot restore removed songs or install custom cars.

In conclusion, great game, EA ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the remaster by being EA, you can fix some but you can't fix others if you run Linux. If you ain't scared of browsing game files, it's a blast on Deck.
