If that's the case, that's... disappointing, to put it lightly. It disincentivizes buying anything on Origin/EA Desktop, and prioritizes Steam purchases that I can distribute to the other platforms that are needed to run them in the first place (whether through one-time or multiple verification processes).
That seems silly. I went through the trouble of buying these games again, and now I can't transfer it because of a something on EA's end? Jeez. I don't have much money these days, and I'd really like to take advantage of ME:LE's bundle price.
I don't mind Origin in as much as it used to be the only way to play Mass Effect 3 and Andromeda. It used to be the only place to play Dragon Age II and Inquisition. It's where I got my free copy of Jade Empire, and it's where I could theoretically play Star Wars: The Old Republic, if I wanted to go through the stress of an MMORPG again. FPS issues are mostly solved by just disabling one or both overlays. Afaik, after launching it from both Steam and Origin once, it should remember that it's "registered", and not have to do so again (note: this last sentence is second-hand information and unreliable).
The important part, for me, is the discount. I don't have a lot of money these days, and would very much like to purchase this game when it comes out. That 17% discount is only available on Steam, and thus prioritizes Steam as the platform to purchase it in if you have Mass Effect 3.
* Origin CD Keys not recognized by Steam will not be given support. It seems that it only goes one way, from Steam to Origin.
* There are currently no plans to bring a discount (in the form of bundle or not) to Origin or the Beta EA Desktop Application. I was told to "keep an eye out", but given that the Steam bundle has been available for a week or two now, I'm not holding my breath.
My only recourse currently is to make a ticket to Steam itself, hoping that it allows such. The help site actually suggests the opposite- contacting Steam, and then the publisher. But it's the only shot I got left at taking advantage of the discount.
And EA could somehow implement a system where it activates their products on your linked Steam account, which again is very clearly shown on their own account settings page.
I can completely understand EA not wanting to just give out CD keys, but they wouldn't have to if they invested some time into this shiz.
I can even see my connected Steam account when looking through my EA account settings...
EA loosened their grip a little, but they're still somewhat furiously holding onto their games like it's their only choice.
