As for your statement, "I have been stuck in one of the early missions because I can't get past the fire on the ground and I can't do the wall.", I think you might be stuck in the part where you need to find the battery to activate the Titan, or in the section with time shifts. In this case, I suggest you look up a walkthrough. There's nothing shameful about checking a guide while playing a game—what matters most is having fun.
as a pilot you have extra gear, that is jump-jets.
so the wall-running is sticky, imagine, because the jets are pushing against the wall.
when i started the game, i used "common-sense" to gauge how long i could wall-run
"realistically". well, it turns out that you can wall-run ALOT LONGER then that.
so first i rolled my eyes: "that's not realistic! your momentum cannot make you stick to the wall THAT long".
then i remembered that pilots get extra gear, like a sentient robot, a helmet and ... jump-jets.
so if you have "issues" with wall-sticking ..errr... wall-jumping, just think "jump-jets" and take a extra second or two "attached to the wall" before hitting the spacebar (once or even twice) for your next jump :)
