Unable to execute mercenary titan? (campaign)

Been trying for the last 10 minutes now on master difficulty, to use a melee execution on Kane for the "Coup De Grace" achievement, but he just keeps ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ exploding instead of getting executed. Doesn't matter if I drop him to doomed state via punching, using missiles, or just plain shooting him and then running up for the execution; he still just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ explodes.

Is my game bugged, or am I just sucking ♥♥♥♥ at this? I have executed many a titans in this game, so I am certain I am doing it right.

Only Ash, Richter and Slone can be executed during the campaign.

Well ♥♥♥♥, would be great if the achievement ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ specified which mercenaries you even can execute. Thanks for the info though, just wish I hadn't spent like 20 minutes of my life doing a pointless task.
