Help with Northstar (Frontier Defense)
Any vets here in FD? Just want some tips on how to hit crits with Northstar.

Can't seem to hit crits despite aiming on the red spots dead on.

I have issue mostly with Monarchs and Tones. Can anyone help me out?

The railgun is a projectile sometimes your targets can move before your intended impact so you could miss the crit spot by a tiny bit

That's the frustrating bit

coz, I can't make use of Northstar's increased crit dmg because of it (╬▔皿▔)╯

you need calculate the projectile distance, what you want to hit, when evade or take cover, is a hard learning curve that can be mastered by experience it
Just play more and get used to railgun's velocity, sometimes its just enemy titan getting dashed right at the moment of your shot, after you'll get faster railgun chargin - this problem will most probably gone.

Critical damage - applies when you hit this exact red spots.
tip - reapers also have them - prioritize one on the waistline till its most probably will hit this one other than any other (and sometimes its seems like perfect shot but you still deal normal damage).
tip 2 - find some fast vid on titan's critical spots so you can see them in static state and fully understtand how they looks, where they and how better to hit them.

Must have for Northstar is Pierce Shot kit.
Tip - You can shoot through your's teammates titans with it without a trouble because its plasma made of nanomachines which will only ticle friendly titans on sides for make them laugh) and damage anything what stands after it.
Tip 2 - if you see line of reapers (and maybe titans behind this row) - crouch and shoot through the whole line damaging everything on it.

Tones and Monarchs can be a bit of pain for northstar till real Northstar's role is not more of "offense" but damager and row-killer. What will help(this applies to any titan you use in Frontier Defense) - get them to Aegis 20 - first of all - you will most likely know what to do with it till this moment together with knowing most of the working and not working tactics, and second - you will get, at least, x2 more powerfull and efficient titan at this point.
Other thing which can be usefull - if you doomed some titan and they far from harvester and/or you have a teammate near - it can in most cases be more proficient and usefull to change your target till railgun still need to charge itself and at the moment of your teammate ending doomed one - you're probably already will doom another one and deal enough damage to anything behind it

Some people use double tether trap kit, I dont really see a reason for it(maybe because I died not ones from own tether after my titan were gotten blown to pieces and me securing the area with anything I have, running to other spot and suddenly getting killed by own trap's explosion) but you can try it as well - remember that pretty much anything can be used and tested on regular difficult(tho I still see people failing it under regular not critical conditions when you just need to look at map and see that there is a breach in line and you need to go intercept) while on hard - you better be at least 70% sure with what you doing and enemy types possibilities.

NStar's railshot also appears to have drop, but it doesn't actually. It simply looks that way because of the (IMO, a bit overdone and far too wide) ripple-wake effect. The shot will always hit dead center, it just might take a few milliseconds to get there.

That's the frustrating part. I AM aiming for the red spot and the hit check is still white >:V

I can kill Titans more effectively with an (amped) SMR /s

Well you already see that there is times when its more efficient to leave the titan as decoy and deal some damage on your own.
Its all depends on difficulty level, titan, weapon you use and actual situation.

At this point, Northstar is a Nuke Silo for me :y

I just want that pinup nose art

Are you able to like record stuff or something? Use shadowplay? Anything that gives us an actual video of your performance

Lead your shots, don't forget about the small dropoff

Yeah, I figured the bullet drop.. Max zoom with the Titan size is half the screen, I'll just aim the top part of the lower bar to the weak point then CRIT.

Can't record games sadly :(

Fortunately, I figured out the bullet drop. Definitely explains my whiffing of crits D:<

The shot fx obfuscated me from seeing the damn bullet drop.

There is no bullet drop. I already said this and it's easily provable. You don't even need to be online, just play the mission The Fold Weapon in the campaign. As soon as you get your titan back switch to the Northstar loadout. You have tons of open space, targets, and distant objects to test it on. It DOES NOT drop. At all. The only caveat to the shot other than flight speed is that it shifts the gun a tiny bit left or right of its original position when it shoots, and the shot may also be fired a tiny bit left or right of dead center, but it travels perfectly straight.

I mean hell you can just shoot it into the sky and watch the projectile. It doesn't move in any direction other than straight away from you.

shield will protect titans from getting hit in their weak spot, so try to drain their shield first as in shoot anywhere and then target the weak spots, and Tether Traps are really useful combined with Cluster Missile

I dunno man... I had to aim above their heads to hit crits. You might see a straight smoke trail but the bullet drops at a certain distance
