It's twice that they have done this to me (I play on Xbox), but there will not be a third time.
Agree with both of these comments, and could add Dovetail Games flight school (or was it flight sim world???) to the mix......you have become a developer that doesn't deliver.....enjoy the money as you watch your player base dwindle.
Lets be positive at this difficult time and give the devs the benefit of the doubt,
I like FSW: Pro Tour too. That is the point. It is not about being "grumpy"; it's about being taken advantage of as a customer.
Right now, on Steam FSW Deluxe Edition is £32.38. If you want all the DLCs, that will run you an additional £108.91 assuming that you by the Quad Lakes Pass and nothing is on sale. Total investment for FSW: PT = £141.29 (and yes, it can be a bit cheaper if on sale). Now I am (and have) paid that (and probably more since I play on Xbox), and happily. I enjoy the game, after all, and for me, I don't mind paying that.
What I do mind (and quite a lot), is that something similar happened with Euro Fishing. Rather than develop the game and make paying customers happy to come back for more DLCs (and I accept the DLC "system" to support continuing development), DT dumped the game, tweaked it a bit, and re-released it under a different name (FSW). Yes, they added non-European lakes, but nothing prevented them from doing that in Euro Fishing (and they even could have renamed the game, just like the did with FSW when they added the Pro Tour mode).
This new game may be amazing (or not), but what I see as a customer is a developer who is not just "double dipping" but "triple dipping" despite having an excellent existing game that could go further with what is there now; I am not going to support that any longer. They have a history of doing this, not just with fishing games, but also their train simulator games. I am tired of it. There are lots of fishing games out there, some better, some far worse, but I'd rather support a developer that actually develops their game over the long haul (and yes, with DLC).
This can be compared to Expansive Worlds, who make both theHunter Classic and theHunter: Call of the Wild. Classic is 11 years old now, and they still put out content for it (despite being Free to Play) even now. COTW is a paid title, supported by DLCs, and is now some 3 years old. The developers have said they have lots of ideas and goals for the game, and envision it being actively supported with new content for the next 10 years or so. They certainly have put out a huge number of massive hunting reserves, weapon packs, and new animals since the game was released.
I don't expect DT to support FSW for the next 10 years, but I do (or did) expect them to support their game for at least more than 2. So, yes, I gave them the benefit of the doubt after they abandoned Euro Fishing for FSW. I am not going to give them the benefit of the doubt again for The Catch, even if it is a far superior game; they'll just abandon it after a couple of years. My money is better spent elsewhere. I might pick it up if it is massively on sale, but that probably will not happen until it is (once again) abandoned.
Fair enough but its not unusual for a game developer to upgrade the game engine is it? For example in this new game we're going to get moving water, it could be that the previous games were built on an older engine that can't be upgraded, had you thought of that.
Some devs stick with the same game engine for years and charge you by adding premium and gold purchases (RF4), others produce ridiculous amounts of dlc for every type of tackle you can think of, plus they charge you premium too (FP). Yes those games are free but you can't progress except at a snail pace without the premium, gold or dlc. This dev only charges for new fisheries as dlc, which you don't need to be able to progress in the game.
I'd personally recommend The Fisher as being a good value fishing game.
Now a year or two is along time in computer gaming and it's just possible that they have refined the game as well as adding new features that would have been hard to retrofit on FSW. So I'm hoping for a new game with hopefully a new engine.
I think we should wait because if it's as good as it sounds then it's might be worth it I think, if it's just a rehash of Euro fishing and FSW well we can all give it a miss.
Adding water flow has nothing to do with the game engine. It's just a matter of coding it. ;)
You can't just code a moving river into a game built from the ground up without it. Why do you think there ware no flowing rivers in RF and FSW?
Hi Snail Rancher, the new experience for The Catch involves a full engine rebuild, new character models and animations, new advanced water and new ways of playing. To evolve the fishing as a whole we felt it was important to make a new game, not try and put that back into an already live game. We want this to be the best pure species hunting game we can make.
Thank you for the support CornishSpur! We hope that you'll enjoy what we have coming in The Catch!
Fair enough. But I will not be buying it, unless there is a massive sale at some point.
I've paid for Euro Fishing and FSW, and all DLCs for both, but I'll not be doing this a 3rd time. I might be missing out on some new models and animations, but my money will be spent elsewhere with devs who actually support and care about their existing game for a long haul, particularly if there are many, many DLCs.
I been a long tiime fan with Euro fishing and many other have and we need answers if your going to win back our support.
1. You say its a new game?
How is it a new game? What things have you improved that could not be in the previous game? I read that there is water flow? Is that the only new thing? New maps and fish models does not explain why it needs to be a new game? Your new game is concentrating on monster fish. If it was a new game why can't you upgrade everything? And make sure that this new series will be supported for the next 5 years???? I know developer who are doing this they create a game with an engine and technology that can update in the future. And don't need to keep bring out a new game with new dlc?
new ways of playing also does not explain the new series.
What is the new engine if your using unreal there is no reason why the previous unreal cannot handle the feature you want.
Please list the features of why there needs to be a new game? You should have lots from over the years of what fans wants
Look at Cities skylines for example so many DLC lots of Mods and going strong! They did not just release the game brought out a few dlc and then change everything altogether.
So i am very skeptical your bring out this new game cause you have features that can't be put in the previous series. Why did you not as a developer prepare for this when creating the previous series. There could be massive update to upgrade everything in the previous game like what other developer have done. Why did you not do this?
2. Will it be early access and will you NOW listen to our feedback?
We been wanting features for Euro fishing that never made it will you NOW listen to features we want in this future game? How can it be a new game if the fish are just reskin of the old model? And maps just different models? I don't see how this can be different to the previous fishing games and DLC? You can fish for monsters also in the other DLC?
If you want to win back support i hope you will listen more and see what long time fans have been wanting since euro fishing.
Bring it out in early access and please listen to what fans want for the game if this is going to be a major overhaul of previous games.
3.Why would fans have to pay for more DLC for this game?
They already paid lots on the previous game so you better have very strong reasons to ask fans to pay for more DLC for this new game. Like i said above are you going to support this game for many years to keep building on it, improving it and not have to bring out a new series ever time with new dlc. Where fans need to keep rebuying DLC every time?
There has been euro fishing to fishing world tour with DLC and now The catch. And its not fair to make fans buy whole new dlc all over again for something that could be in fishing world tour. Why don't you update that instead?
I hope you will give answers
4. Please release this on early access if your serious to listen to us fans. We do not want to fight monster we want a deeper fishing experience that your previous game could not bring. But was promising with eurofishing but it stopped there. :(
Your success will not come if you do not listen cause it means your not really listening to what fans been wanting for years.
FISHING PLANET HAS MORE PLAYERS
5. Fishing planet has over 3,000 players at the moment and your game has only 40-60. And it shows your NOT winning over fans who are playing FP at all. They have stuck to one game and they keep building and updating it. They release the same game but with out all the monthly fees but that game has only 100 players. So they are doing something right that you should be following.
However they have abandon the game they brought out as they too do not listen but at least they have kept to one game with out releasing different sequel of the same game.
Stick to one game and update it continually with out bring a new series and new dlc every time. We don't need more realistic graphics if the core features are not there and the same!
Why are you not following this model of success that FP has ? As it show you current model is not working at all and bringing in the players you need.
6. Release it on early access, listen more to what long time fans wants, bring everthing from previous game into the new game. Allow players from FSW to transfer their character and stats to the new game.
Update all the old maps and transfer it into the new game with the new engine.
Give big discount for FSW and Euro users so they don't need to buy everything all over again reward them.
Do not make a new game about monster but about the exp of fishing that has been missing since euro fishing. Fix that first!
Make the old maps alive again don't trash it out! Old maps can be interesting all over again if you work on the fish and its ecosytem that you promise in euro fishing.
I know a game that has 100 realistic maps of the world and its sold for $60!
7. You can include both arcade and sim players in the game if you are willing to listen!
I seriously doubt you will agree to all this or even spend time listening and adjusting and will only do what you want and not what fans wants and if so then fans should not buy your game on release. But do prove me wrong DTG prove us all wrong that you have changed?
Will you be more willing to listen and release this on early access so dedicated fans can help develop the game!
If you can do half of this this will win back the support of your old fans!
8. Experience in development
I been helping out indie developer and there is one indie game that came out in 2014. And now 2020 it still is developing and changing! from simple graphics to more beautiful graphics! Its not even complete yet and they have over 1 million sales!!!! Players love it cause the developer listen while having a goal to the game. Over the years they added in more content more maps more features and it just become a very huge indie game!
I strongly suggest you follow this model approach if your looking to retain past players over the years. As this is what you need to succeed to have players that are with you for years as they are the one that will support you financially and grow you and help make your product better.
9. If you do not listen
If you do not listen other developer will beat you to it in the future through crowfunding as i seen this happen with other types of games. Will you be the fishing develop that care alot about what fans want that keep to the goal of what a fishing game should be? Or are you going to let this goal fade away to be passed on to other developers? To give us what we been wanting for years???
Look at Cities skyline it defeated sim city cause developer did not really care about the fans at all. And cities skyline was born and its the best city building game to date cause fans wanted it.
We have taken on board fan feedback from our previous titles and have concentrated on the non-bass side of fishing to be able to deliver a focused carp & coarse experience. We are aiming to improve the overall gameplay and bring in new features like advanced water mechanics, dropshotting, vastly improved float fishing and much more. We aren't currently planning on releasing it into early access on Steam.
