To me, and as someone who's been playing Need for Speeds, RC Cars, and other racing videogames during my childhood, later on including this FlatOut, I have found the game to be really very straightforward and simple, mainly due to the option of being capable of taking the AI player out and ensuring myself the victory of the cup if being a few points ahead.
I do play with the mod to increase the difficulty of AI, and I'm still having the time to joke around and try to get as many points for crashes and other interactions with the opponents' cars, just so I can get some extra credits.
The moment you start focusing on proper handling, so to actually slow down before taking turns, proper boost management to get most out of it, you will find yourself winning cups in no time, even without any prior experiences to the racing simulators, and that's especially gonna be the case with the vanilla version of the game, so with the default difficulty of AI opponents.
Generally speaking, figuring out who's typically the best and making sure to stop their cars for a while (not necessarily outright crashing their car, but just making them slide and lose attitude) and focusing to win the race becomes an easy method to win the cups.
To me, the game is very newbie friendly. It becomes all the easier once you buy your prefered cars and upgrade them to the max, i.e. with Venom, Grinder, Lentus, Insetta, and Road King.
Those cars are so fast with the proper upgrades that the opponents won't be able to keep up in most cases, since the nitro upgrades do push the car past the limits of its class, or so I'd say.
