This game's English dub is Netflix level bad

I feel like there are probably enough English speaking Japanese voice actors in the US that could have made this dub not sound like everybody is a pasty white guy.

I will give english dub a chance the day the studio finds an actress who doesn't speak like a valley girl.

I played through both but honestly, I thought the dub was pretty good overall.

My gripes were too many voices sounding gruffy and similar, and worst of all for me, some of the dub seemed heavily improvised to the point where I felt it almost lost its original intention.

For e.g. I recall Ichi sounding like a horny child in the dub when he first confronted Hoshino, as if he completely forgot why he was there and only wanted to give the corniest praise possible... However in the original sub, his (completely different) choice of words and expressions gave that of a daredevil with admiration for heroes of the past, then hinting that he actually has a direct connection with them. Just these two clips alone give me impressions of two completely different characters.

Really? I'm playing the dub right now and I'm honestly loving it. I absolutely love the personality in everyone, and there are some funny friggen moments with the English that just didn't resonate with me in the Japanese version

That being said, all the English people saying "chan" and "kun" do make my skin crawl lmfao

The dub is actually pretty good and they did use a good amount of asian voice actors. Ichiban's voice actor, which probably has the most voiced lines, is actually chinese and they even managed to get George Takei. They made some effort. It sounds like it sounds because it's a dub and japanese is an option.

on a side note there is a serious debate in Japan over whether or not the subs or dub is better for the show "King of the Hill"

i think the English dub is passable, actually its pretty good except for the main character Ichiban, if you listen to the Japanese he is much more charismatic... they really needed to put a more charismatic voice actor for him, it doesn't feel the same when you hear him in English but i got used to it. Everyone else seemed fine to me.

We don't have valley girls here and I don't know what they sound like but I thought everyone in this game was quite good.

This. somebody hired these VA's and somebody told them how to act out their lines. Sega needs to rethink their dubbing strategy if this is what they consider the way forward.
