'Member Kiryu? The character that story's supposed to end and retire in the previous game?

I dont mind paying homages to the previous entries, but why do they have to bring characters that already died to show up in this game? This feels like they just made a popularity poll, and picked whatever's the most voted, and put it in the game.

Also I hate that they decided to put Kiryu in the story fighting alongside other yakuzas. It just made his ending in 6 pointless

Kashiwagi being alive was an EXTREMELY hard pill to swallow.

Lau Ka Long being alive is absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because bullet went THROUGH HIS HEAD IN 3.

You know, I had to open Kashiwagi's wiki page to understand where in the game did you see him. And... Holy Kiryu. I did not realize that.

Aside from him and Lau Ka Long - I don't have any problems with your list. As for Kiryu - his story will be over only when he's dead. And not just by documents. The gravity of his personality and status is too great. Both in real world and the game one.
But, considering the whole disbandement of Tojo and Omi - maybe they won't put him in Y8 as a story character (but you bet he's gonna be a summon).

I think you are forgetting Yakuza 6 ending . He faked his death in order to protect Haruka . Well, he is officially dead and his minor appearance at the Omi HQ could only lead to rumors. Nobody shouted "Dragon of Dojima lives!" at the crowd. So, while stupid - to finish off both Tojo and Omi in an amiable way his appearance is in character. It's not another endless war between two clans and "Kiryu, help us". It's to hammer a nail in the coffin of everything.
Without Tojo - there's no need to go after Haruka to hurt Kiryu. Underside informants (like komijuru) already knew about him being alive, while civilians don't and that's what's important right now.

What do you think he's doing in his retirement? Driving taxi again? Kiryu can't live a civilian life.

Right? I dont mind having Kiryu shows up in the story, but him showing up in the middle of the yakuza meeting, an organization that made him fake his death to literally get out of is just stupid. Dude faked his death and leave his family behind , just to come back to the clan because Watase asked him to?

" just a bodyguard I found " please trust me and ignore how he looks exactly like the 4th Chairman of our biggest enemy. Also something I forgot to mention earlier , it was a politician that made the fake death deal with Kiruy. Considering how LAD resolves around politics and Yakuza , it is very likely the said politician had his eyes on the situation , which makes it even more likely and dangerous for Kiruy to be discovered .

I guess there is no point complaining further since whats done is done , I just hope Yakuza 8 will not try again so hard to show old characters just for fan service sake . I could grind my teeth with the turn based combat system ( which doesnt suit the series in my opinion at least ) but if the writting begins to suffer as well is just too much.

But at least with Joon they made an asspull move where its a "forged twin" kind of thingy similar to what happened in Yakuza 2. So as eye rolling as it is, its nowhere near as dumb as having Kashiwagi and Lau alive.

Also, I find it funny that Kiryu is so secretive around himself telling Kasuga "hey, I need to stay hidden so I cannot help you anymore" but surprise: he is a poundmate member and can be called whenever you want. Talk about keeping a low profile.
