I have watched a lot of anime so I can understand most of the words by hearing but not by reading. I recommend using mother language subtitles but keep the voice over original(Japanese) just like watching anime, which feels better for me. Japanese voice actors are pro as fk.

There are two different subtitle sets. One for sub, and one for dub.

The English dub is top notch to be honest.
I tend to play and watch stuff in their native lanaguges with subs either in English or Spanish.
But, this game it's SOOOO good.

Go with either you feel most confortable.

When I go to set the game to Japanese, it said that only the other languages subtitles fit the Japanese VO.

I prefer original voices, and english dub is kinda weird in this installment, from what i've seen punks and random enemies are still using japanese voiceover even if you switch to dub.

Wait, Zhao is voiced by Okamoto Nobuhiko, nvm, Japanese voice over is superior.

Its the same in Judgment, so its quirk they likely work change going forward.

Judgment cast is also good, but I really don't like how a lot of the things remain undubbed.

I believe their logic behind it is straight up "this game is Japanese as hell, so it'd be weird if you didn't hear anybody speaking Japanese".

Which I personally think checks out. I think it also helps remind you that they are all actually speaking Japanese, so when a character rolls up and is speaking Korean it's made more clear.

Japanese dub all the way

JP dub with german subs, though I have to say with my constantly increasing understanding of japanese, the german subs are not as good as they were in Judgment, like I've seen the wrong pronouns used several time as I suspect the translators weren't always told if a NPC is a man or woman, and other (maybe deliberate?) inaccuracies, I'm disappointed in the german translation.

Japanese although I'm bilingual, I'll play western games in english and japanese games in japanese, just how I like it

I'm kinda of a ♥♥♥♥ about this when it comes to anime dub for example.. I always prefer Japanese but in this case i actually like the english one, the VA did a great job putting the feelings and emotions to Ichi. In the japanese version he sounds like a generic protagonist . On the english one i actually can like him!
oh and the karoke? hahaha in the english dub they sound like a bunch of drunk people singing! Which is super fun!

I played in Japanese and watched one of my favorite streamers play in English.
The english dub is good, a lot of Vo from Persona 5.
What i did not like was the Karaoke in English
