Boss Fights Aren't Fun
Just finished the game and every boss fight from chapter 12 onward was a major annoyance. Its just damage sponges who hit way too hard for the level you would naturally be around when reaching that point in the game, forcing you to step back from the story to grind levels.

Why are the normal enemies easy af to deal with all the way up to the boss fight, then the boss ends up being literally impossible for you're current group to handle? I was being as completionist as possible when playing and that still wasn't enough to handle the bosses, you **have** to grind levels at some point in the game, and JUST because the bosses are a thing.

It damages the flow of the game just for the sake of making you grind.

Chapter 12 is when the difficulty spike happens, so you really need to do some grinding in the sotenbori battle arena, you can get between 10-15 levels if you grind it well with xp boosters equipped
Or just get a mod which gives you more xp

Im saying that if the boss battles weren't artificially spiked there would be absolutely no reason to grind. I've never come close to having close shaves with enemies throughout my entire playthrough.

Did you need to grind the arena in the older titles? No, it was side content that unlocked more optional moves that weren't at all necessary to beat the game

But the older titles were brawler combat, not turn based. So e.g you could technically beat yakuza 0 without getting a SINGLE upgrade. So yeah you can skip coloseum and still beat the game, rushing the older games is quite easy to do. Since 7 is turn based you are basically toast regardless, which therefore requires some kind of grind to get past later parts of the story

I'd have to disagree. As I keep regurgitating, there is NO grind AT ALL excluding preparation for bossfights. Tweak bossfights to maybe hit less or even be less spongy and you would completely remove the need to grind. Bosses are 100% of the reason to grind.

"Turn-based" does not equal "grind necessary"

Xcom 2 off the top of my head. I think the term you are looking for is JRPG

But isnt xcom more linear in terms of its combat? Whereas obviously in yakuza its more open and free to go to dungeon or arenas. Since yakuza is free roaming jrpg it makes more sense there will be a grind aspect. Not saying i love grinding btw i actually find it tedious after the first few hours, hence why i initially said there is probably a mod to reduce the grind

its a common thing in Japanese games. off the top of my head: Bravely Default 1, Final Fantasy 12 both had bosses that were massive massive bullet sponges. Like, take an hour to beat in FF12, and half an hour in BD1

Ya if you wanna set yourself for the rest of the campaign I recommend grinding the arena til close to lvl 60 (or if you don't want to do it all at once, go for 50). You can use the Yakuza Training Gear and Tranquil Tenugui.

Took me about 2 hours of farming the last set of the arena to reach this point, not the worst grind. Plus the gear you get for the bonus awards in the last set are super good. I recommend bringing rocket launchers and Tauriner++ so you can spam Ichiban's space laser move and other ultimate attacks

Op the issue is that the game doesn’t have much of a curve it’s a spike and chapter 12, depending on the team and jobs it’s doable without grinding. Although the arena does have good items.

It's honestly ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I'm glad I haven't bought infinite wealth yet.

You mean right after the Battle Arena unlocks and all of your party members explicitly tell you "we should REALLY go through this and do everything else we can to prepare because things are going to get tough"? Hmm, I wonder.

but the difficulty spike is really extreme. im currently 55 and every bossfight is very annoying, they just take way too long because they have insane health
i played alot of RPGs and rarely had to grind that much for story bosses.
