Amazon Live Action Adaptation
What do you guys think of the upcoming Amazon live action adaptation of Like a Dragon?
I personally think it could be great after watching the Fallout series. I just hope they stick to a single tone. Having wacky side quests in a game with a serious tone works for video games, not so much shows.

If it's not wacky then what's the point
its japanese production with yokoyama as producer, so itll do well, no western "take" on an already established story/lore
amazon doesnt do shows well when giving free reign just look at ring of power, so long as they do what netflix did to one piece then it might be watchable otherwise i dont expect much
What I don't get is that it's a live adaptation Kazuma Kiryu's story so why are they calling it "Like A Dragon" which is Ichiban Kasuga's story.

They shifted their games to going from yakuza to now like a dragon, its not specifically related to ichiban, if that were true then the kiryu side game would have been called Yakuza Gaiden

Like A Dragon is what the series has always been called in Japan. I believe this game is Like A Dragon 8 and now the developers are sticking to the original name for western releases as well. Except instead of using the numbers they're just not numbering them and coming up with sub titles.

Also, the developers Ryu Ga Gotuku or RGG studios also means "Like a Dragon" in Japanese
The live action adaptation was known about for a while.
I remember them saying it was going to be a completely japanese team making it in japan, I don't remember anyone mentioning amazon before, so I guess amazon is acting more as a basic publisher for the western release.

w-what?? The actors are japanese, of course they are speaking THEIR own language, now there will probably be some poor dub over the voices so feel free to watch that because you cant move your eyes 1 inch down a screen every few seconds

I used to want a dub but over the years I have watched the localization get worse for these games. Even if you don't fully speak Japanese it's not hard to notice many things the localisation team just makes up themselves even in the subtitles. It can be like that in films and anime too. Sometimes I would just prefer to have seemingly awkward cultural moments that I learn from or appreciate from an inside perspective instead of it told to me in a trendy way that fits in with our culture today. I find a lot of characters are totally different going from Japanese to English. I always prefer listening to the Japanese dub on most things now and the more I do the easier it is to understand.
It will be ♥♥♥♥.

Thank God it's Japanese made.
