I haven't come across anything like that as I have been playing. I have upgraded my weapons when I unlocked the armoury because obviously I will try to min max. 100% of fights I can just raise Kasugas attack on the first turn, use mega swing and sometimes kill everyone in one hit, and if any survive there is Nanba or Adachi to hit them.
That's as deep as any fight has gone for me and most of the time I don't even do that I just attack them and they will all be dead in 2 turns max. I am 20 hours in and have about 600,000 yen so definitely don't need to worry about items or food either.
I've played enough JRPG's to know that a lot of them are filled with useless trash I have no time for. Like if you have ever played Xenoblade Chronicles you would wade through the dialogue of like 500 side quests of the most generic dialogue possible. Same with Final Fantasy 14, the writing in that game was so bland and awful, I just could not tolerate it. The writing in Yakuza is a lot better but its taking up too much time with text and definitely has a lot of moments in it which are pointless.
Be in the mid game, decide I'll play for a little bit, do some stupid QTE mini game at the cinema which pushes my bond level up and stats I don't get any use out of. No point in raising bond anymore because I have everyone at max possible for the past 10 hours. So that was a waste of time. Decide to progress the story.
Go through a very small linear dungeon where I kill every enemy in 2 turns max with the exact same combo. Buff Kasuga, use mega swing, pick anyone else off. That's literally EVERY fight in this game for like 25 hours now.
So mow through the dungeon in about 10 minutes. Then watch a cutscene for half an hour. HALF AN HOUR. Of back and forth nonsense, people pointing a gun to my head saying they're going to kill me, but then just smack them instead, then I'm on their side, the Chinese now want me dead, but wait, they want proof of something, and I've diffused the whole situation by walking in unarmed and punching people... okay.
So after that 30 minute cut scene I need to meet the Geomujil. And ♥♥♥♥♥ Christ what an absolutely retarded piece of writing.
>meets me outside, flirts, tells me to go upstairs
>ambushed by a gang, kill them all
>walk up a broken building collecting bread crumbs of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ loot
>one shot every enemy encounter
>get to top
>"Oh we just wanted to test you so we could show you our unrealistically over the top money printing machine which uses anti gravity technology and high tech lasers which we've been doing for 20 years at least"
>girl is actually mafia boss
>says we needed to see if you were hard
>exposes Nanba idiotically (so Nanba's brother went missing and so he decided to dress up as a homeless person and pretend he's a bum so he can look at a building. That's so dumb)
>Super badass korean mafia now is going to kill me and has guns pointed to my head
>but fails because I punch them and they drop their guns
>have a 4v1 with a guy while the girl just stands in the corner not grabbing the gun
>walk down 3 floors of bad guys, one shotting everyone, whilst having casual conversations with the 2 people who just tried to kill me
>they don't pick up their guns, they don't shoot
>tell Nanba to jump out the window
>mob boss is on the phone
>they say I can live if I meet them at 2AM in chinatown
And that in total took me 70 minutes. During that cutscene I cooked and ate my dinner. A large pizza, with arincini on the side, and a dessert. Finished a medium sized drink. Rolled a smoke. Smoked half. All while listening to this absolute sperg fest of a game filled with 90% useless waffle.
I actually love watching films and TV shows, but this is just trash. There is no way this would pass as a film or TV show so why doesn't it just stick to being a game? The plot is filled with the most stupid plot holes and character discrpencies. It makes no sense at all and drags on, and on, and on, and on, for then to get into gameplay, and you just break the game instantly because it's too easy and the combat is broken.
>Buff Kasuga's attack
>Mega Swing
>Game complete
No need to upgrade my weapons or anything like that as it would just make the game even easier. I've decided I'm not going to play this anymore as it's just a waste of time. When you are not one shotting every enemy in the game or watching some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ cutscene you are playing mediocre mini games. Like why would I play Dragon Kart when I already have Mario Kart and it's actually amazing not this weak af crap that wouldn't even pass on the PS2 as a good rip off of Mario Kart? Go to QTE's... yeah, so amazing, engaging gameplay, do the most basic QTE's like I might as well have bought a BOP-IT or Simon Says instead of play this.
Glad I got this for free from someone elses Humble key or else it would totally be a colossal waste of money. This game is a joke. So much potential and it's just squandered by atrocious direction.
I did read the whole thing, but I should have stopped.
You have max bond with Adachi. Some bonds are locked beyond main story that you also don't have, or as an example Eri through the management minigame.
It's absolutely not one max swing with bat to kill stuff in a lot of places.
True tower is all L99 that will 1 hit you if you don't have the right things or do the right things.
And legit, every fight, buff Kasuga with Saeko, use mega swing, and GG. Pick anyone else off with Adachi or Nanba. Worst case scenario one or two enemies gets one turn does hardly any damage and every couple of fights just pop some food that you bought for 80 Yen and heals like 100 HP. Every boss has been a cake walk. I don't want to have to play for 60+ hours for the difficulty to artificially spike up for the sake of it where enemies just start one shotting you. That's terrible game design. I've been playing Star Ocean Second Story R and even though that can be text heavy sometimes it's no where near as bad as this and overall its refreshing after coming from this.
It's so mid the way they did everything in this game. Shenmue is so much better because you feel actually involved in the world going from day to day but this is jarring. Story wise only like one week has passed I think since Kasuga gets out of prison but it feels so much longer. It's jack of all trades and master of none.
I think that as a concept the game has amazing potential. When I was getting into it I thought it was great and loved all the ideas. But then it feels dull, like it's half baked, or stuck in the past. It's too bad as it could have been one of the best RPG's ever made if it was done right but it's kind of a joke.
Enough said
On the contrary, the fact I've played JRPGs since I was 5 years old, playing a very large amount, I would say it is still atypical for a game to be this bloated especially after 30 hours of "gameplay". Just to name a few JRPG's I've played recently since putting this game down.
1. Star Ocean: Second Story (Some bloat, nowhere near as bad, majority of it is optional)
2. Vagrant Story (Absolutely peak JRPG with great pacing and enjoyable story)
3. Dragon Quest 8 (Do I need to even explain? That is the gold standard of JRPGs)
4. Final Fantasy 12 (Good pacing, good gameplay, story is meh but not a slog)
5. Jade Cocoon (Mid JRPG, but sticks to gameplay, few cutscenes are amazing)
Could anyone here name me a list of 5 JRPG's that take 30+ hours to mostly be playing the game? I mean, my playtime aside, the whole games like that. It's a joke.
I don't think I should expect to sit through cut scenes for 75% of my time with zero challenge what so ever 30 hours into any game frankly.
I think a lot of the Yakuza fans are quite basic in mentality with poor taste and not able to discern or critique something at a productive level. This thread shows that. Instead of actually being able to think it just drops to "Durr JRPG's have long cutscenes always so why did you expect different?"
It's like in this day and age people are confused that some people actually want a meaningful experience and don't just hate themselves sitting in a room all day looking for a lengthy distraction from real stuff. This game falls short on so many levels, but it will continue to sell well, because the fan base are stupid.
