Why is the game called "Like A Dragon" ?
I've always wondered why it was called like that?

The phrase “Like a Dragon” could be seen as a metaphor for the game’s main characters who much like dragons in Asian legends, symbolize great power and good fortune. The characters navigate through the criminal underworld with strength and resilience, akin to a dragon.
It also reflects the game’s blend of gritty realism and fantastical elements, much like a dragon :B1:
Kiryu is also named The Dragon of Dojima.
I think the title is a metaphor for the characters overcoming strong adversity through sheer will power.

The real name of Yakuza games in Japanese is Ryu ga Gotoku (also the devs studio name too) that means Like a Dragon. Back then in western release they choose the name Yakuza but when the story of Kiryu end in Yakuza 6 and with the new main protagonist Kasuga Ichiban (the dude you play in the trailer) so the west Sega named the game Yakuza: Like a Dragon but in Japan it's Like a Dragon 7 and from that point on the devs said that every new games in the main series will be name Like a Dragon.

There're some spin-off game in the series like Judgment / Lost Judgment, Like a Dragon Ishin / Kenzan / Dead Soul

Name issues being confusing between jpn and west
Yakuza: like a dragon is almost a passing of the torch from the name yakuza to like a dragon, now its called like a dragon, imma still call it yakuza though but the translation is on par with jpn now - also the yakuza kinda arent even a thing after 7 so it makes more sense storywise

Sure, but why is it Like A Dragon? What does the likeness of a dragon have to do

Nothing it’s just a name, well kiryu is called the dragon of dojima with a dragon on his back and it just stuck.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

At least with this one, I also took it to be a reference to a carp jumping up a waterfall to become a dragon - much like Ichiban and his dragon-fish tattoo rising up against insurmountable odds
