I've forced the game to load on the video card, the power settings are set to performance, and the bloatware is gone. I'm not using a controller either. I thought it was due to a graphical issue but that isn't the case. Other steam games are fine, it's just this one.
I will attempt to use windows 10
Strangely enough you may want to try plugging a controller in. I vaguely remember there was a bug about first starting the game without a controller way back. (There were a lot of controller bugs at different times.)
Do you have any nonstandard characters in your user account for your computer? There was an issue with using different encoding between windows and what the game was looking for. Not sure if they ever fixed it. (You can create a symbiotic link to fix it.)
I did check that your cpu can handle the instruction sets for the game.
Sorry it has been awhile since I helped anyone troubleshoot this game to get it working.
Thank you for your reply, but I think I have found the issue. I was installing the game on my 1TB HDD which didn't load it, but it was the HDD that was the issue, not the game. I am currently downloading it on my SSD instead as I ran a test with trove which launched on my SSD, but refused to launch on the HDD.
Kind of strange. I mean I run this on my modern desktop but I also have a quick play on it on my laptop when Im in bed. My laptop is about 7yrs old;
Win10
i5 7300HQ
1050 (2GB)
8GB RAM
1TB HDD
120GB SSD
No controller either (only on desktop) but this works on the laptop, had no issues apart from system limitations and, I have to run it super low quality just to maintain 58 - 60fps. Alternatively I could run it low and native resolution at 30fps but Im too used to 60 lol Its installed on the HDD too because theres just not enough space on the SSD to hold it, so I get initial loading time about 15 - 17secs whereas on desktop its about 2 - 3secs
But Iv not had no hanging issues like yours, weird
