This one is probably the best title in the series for newcomers to jump in. From Yakuza 0 to 6, they had one character as the main protagonist and here, they are introducing a new guy along with a new battle system.
I do own the previous titles but haven't played them except for 0 (for few hours), so my knowledge on the series is rather limited to say the least, but actually in some sense, this helped me to get immersed and enjoy the game even more because the game follows the protagonist's (a dude who doesn't know anything about all the legendary Yakuza guys) point of view and thanks to the game's (clever) writing, it doesn't bombard you with expositions and all the backstories about returning characters.
RPG style combat system does feel grindy at times, but it is enjoyable for the most part. The game is true to its JRPG root, so if you just grind a bit and level up enough, you can overcome most of the boss fights.
Not sure you've ever been to an Arcade,
1. I've never touched a Yakuza game, picked this up on a whim, I can literally work out the characters drives, past/repeat ones (and so on) JUST by the fact it hardly makes it difficult to work out what's going on here. ((Literally going "LOOK THAT GUYS LEGENDARY YAKUZA" at the later game where it's constantly filled with previous-characters)) - As a heads up on this note, It's only in the late game you "need to know" previous games, and even then as I said, it's literally spelled out for you by the characters.
2. "Guesswork"? Like this is the most dumb bit of your whole, whole little rant. At what point is it guesswork? You press buttons when prompted and there's weaknesses/resistances to a lot of enemies. At what point is it guessing? IT even drops you a damn "Pokédex" rip off early on to help you know what enemies are weak to.. Mate don't touch Pokémon or you'll be in for a scary time.
3. Oh you mean like it literally outlines at every turn? "HEY LOOK WHEN I FIGHT I THINK OF IT LIKE AN ARCADE GAME", "HEY LOOK, TONS OF ARCADE SHELVES AND MINIGAMES". Jesus this is like buying a chocolate bar and complaining because it's chocolate and not a sandwich.
Refund the game, it doesn't deserve people like you who pick it up with 0 research then ♥♥♥♥♥ an hour in when the games literally just getting going.
EDIT:// Spotted your other thread about 0 tutorial. Mate I'm sorry to say but IF you can't work out button prompts and a simple, VERY simple J-RPG "attack, item, other, run" system you shouldn't touch RPGs. It's so braindead I could give it to my 8year old niece and she'd understand it. Also 100% sure it literally does "Freeze Frame" tutorials during the intro to explain fighting, sounds like you skipped it all.
fighting is guesswork? you literally attack the same enemy over and over unless they have a weakness. i dont know if it was patched but it literally says weakness above their name.
over 20 years theres been turn based combat and you're calling it guesswork?
How is an optional dlc that has 0 impact on the story, game breaking exactly?
Not defending anyone, but I may or may not have an addiction to the gambling mechanics in sega's titles... Only downside is I am getting to play it through family sharing, so it will not allow me to download the DLC at all. But I can't complain; I didn't pay for it
