I'm about ready to enter that building and feel under-prepared. ( Think it's Chapter 4 or 5 )

Do I need to gear up or is it mostly story battle? thanks

If you are really not prepared enough, the game will warn you. If I remember correctly, you cannot even enter this building unless you have some good gear. As for the difficulty itself, it's pretty easy.

the real wall is around chapter 12 were you want to be close to 50. that being said don't avoid side content like dungoens etc early game when they unlock.
