I hate ichiban so much
The preachy, self-righteous, and naive idiot that headbutts his way to victory with more plot armor than half the cast of fairy tail combined. I love everything else about this story, but my god, that guy is insufferable.

but my point to the homie is that there's nothing NEW or fresh about this type of character. Now if you are going to sit here and tell me that ichiban does not have any of the above traits I listed, then you are just being willfully ignorant my friend.

I didn't say Ichiban doesn't have those traits, I actually said those characters you named do have similarities ( like loving food etc ), my point was that there is more to the characters but you don't want to see the differences because you just want to complain and can't see past the shared trope.
You ignored my other points but since it seems my " big paragraph " is too much for you to handle I'll let you read this reply by someone else ( maybe their wording works better on you ):

Again what makes him a bad character? The excuse that “ it’s been don before” holds no weight.

I even cut it so you can focus on shorter sentences.

I Ya you missed the mark again. What is making this hard is you are like agreeing with me than adding a bunch of stuff that I didn't say to support your argument, I guess? That's why I ignored most of your paragraph. I didn't say that Ichiban is a bad character; I said I didn't like him because of the traits we both agree on. Sure, that is not all to him, but the shounen template imposed on him makes him so insufferable that it overshadows everything else for me because it forces the story direction to flow in a certain way.

Falling under a trope is not enough to make any character poorly written; that falls under an objective argument, in which case I would not say Ichiban is a bad character. He has background, motivation, flaws, etc. He develops throughout the story, for the most part. Most writers use tropes as a template then build off it, and yakuza does this effectively.

The original post you replied to was a guy stating that Ichiban was a breath of fresh air; I quoted the shounen protags to display that he shares many similarities with other shounen protags, which doesn't make him unique.

I hope we cleared this up, lol. If you respond with underhanded insults again, I will block you, my friend; as you can tell, I haven't personally insulted you once.

Ichiban is a likable character, but not a particularly interesting one, as he is just another lovable idiot/friendly giant/foodie/dork type character. But, did any of us expect groundbreaking characters or writing from Yakuza games? Hopefully not.
Ya I just wish they picked a different trope to copy T.T
No hate on Nishiki 2.0 now.
He's a lovable idiot. I like him better than Kiryu, but he still doesn't beat Majima.
Ichiban is cool and funny

Its funny because HxH is probably Ichibans favorite manga (that or Beserk).

Also worth noting Gon Freeces isn't saving the day too often and just scraping by, while side characters are often the determining factors in the major story events.
Hmm. I don't agree with you at all. He's an OK guy. But you do you.
He's a very likeable character, IMO. That being said, I'd cuddle him.

Ichiban > Kiryu
The story explains his "plot armor" essentially

SPOILERS*

You learn that him living was an accident (getting shot) and everything he did leading up to finally meeting up with your old Boss again was just pure luck and coincidence because Ichaban put family first before everything else, unlike everyone else.

Ichaban is the embodiment of luck, being at the right place and the right time, and believing in family first above all else. Now if real life only worked this way.......
So, like any Yakuza MCs? The Yakuza series is by no means realistic. Sure, games try to tell a serious story, but it's always full of crazy ♥♥♥♥. And the main characters always act like anime tropes with thicc plot armor and prone to stupid decisions. Almost every game ends with 2 dudes ripping their shirts off to fight each other.

The Yakuza games are like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Kiryu is literally Jotaro but with character development.

Yeah, Ichiban gets angry when someone jokes about his hair too.

Makes sense why some people want RGGS to make a JoJo game.

He's also wears his emotions on his sleeves and is a nicer guy than his appearance gives off.
