I hate ichiban so much

The preachy, self-righteous, and naive idiot that headbutts his way to victory with more plot armor than half the cast of fairy tail combined. I love everything else about this story, but my god, that guy is insufferable.

Nah, just this one just really pisses me off. Because the rest of the story is so damn good yet it gets dragged down by this shounen protag. It's pretty infuriating.

Honestly I like him. He's a middle aged ex con who spent half his life in prison, walks around with a bad perm and DGAF. But also he's an unashamed gamer nerd and always tries to do the right thing and help people. He does sort of Mr Magoo his way through all sorts of circumstances in spite of himself but eh it's a game.

For me it's a nice change of pace from games that try too hard to make their protagonists seem cool and like a badass or trite quiet surly characters.

I find him to be a lovable dork but to each their own.

So like any game with a protagonist. The dude isn’t a merry Sue he has faults to him like kiryu.

And this is different from Kiryu how?

kiryu is stoic, kind of a blank slate for you to project yourself onto. Ichi is has way more personality and emotion so i guess it is logical that he'd not appeal to some people. I like Ichi though, a breath of fresh air of 7 games of Kiryu moping around and being self righteous, not that i dislike kiryu but i feel the change was good, and they kind of went out of their way to make Ichi not like Kiryu while keeping his principles and moral compass.

I know 4 of the characters you just named and they are nothing alike. No wonder you hate Ichiban being " like every shounen protag " if you can't see differences between any character. I don't see how Naruto and Goku are the same, yes they're both dorky and love food, but are you really incapable of seeing any other personality traits from them? Life must be dull for you if people all look so similar and one-dimensional. People share a few things and you throw them all in the same bag, without seeing anything past the surface.
And it's not just personality traits, characters also have different backgrounds and stories and besides it's not like we shouldn't use something that apparently works and most people like. Like, after the first crime story movie came out, there shouldn't ever be another one because " that genre has already been used, how could I watch another movie like that without getting bored and seeing stuff I've already seen " ?. Obviously the two movies are gonna tell a different story and have very diffrent plot twists and characters and dynamic but hey, they're the same genre so ♥♥♥♥ it I'm gonna hate those movies now?
If you want to be that guy who always have something to complain about and love to play games being pissed every time the playable character opens their mouth, be my guest. The rest of us are gonna be on our side enjoying the game.

Giving a generic "winning formula" character, a view different traits doesn't change the fact that its a soulless character that was writen for profit making (which is understandable since its a business).
Just google "The Hero’s Journey" its a simple writing formula.

If you read the article you will find even more overlaps and you understand how unimaginative and still successfull alot of shows are.

Now you can either seethe about it or just accept the fact and maybe even use it for yourself.
