If controller disconnects, it won't connect again
Title. If I go afk for a while, or alt+tab to do something else, and the controller disconnects, I simply can't make the game recognize it anymore. Only way to fix it is restarting the game, which can be annoying if you are on a dungeon or mid-battle. Happened with both PS4 and Xbox One controllers. Any ways around this?

Question do you have controller getting auto set up via steam, in the steam settings you can have it auto set up controllers whenever you plug it in. In my experiences controllers work well when set up that way.

Also going to assume when you tabbed back in you not only clicked the game but tried pressing buttons after the game was in focus

Waiting for a patch on this one. Extremely frustrating -- I've never been so nervous about how I hold my wired controller to make sure the micro USB end doesn't accidentally get jostled.

I had a very similar issue with controller in the past and both replacing the cable and having steam configure the controllers are what fixed the issues for me. That and making sure vibrate isn't toggled on.

I'm guessing every time the controller disconnects and reconnects windows is treating it as a new controller, doing both the prior suggestions may be your best bet.

Have you tried running Steam in Big Picture mode?

Also having this issue.

I've seen people say running the controller directly through the game works, but I don't seem to understand the process.

I disabled PS4 controller support via steam and the game doesn't acknowledge it via bluetooth or wired....can anyone help?

Ok so on click steam in the top left corner > settings > controller > General controller settings, this will open a big picture mode > check off what ever controller you are using, in this case PS4

Well, I tried it again, and for some reason it works.

Thanks!
