What's the Deal with Karaoke?
So I've started Chapter 5, and I decided to go back to the Survive Bar, and saw that the Karaoke minigame has been unlocked - I played both Kasuga and Saeko's songs, but got no music videos. I know not *every* song in Yakuza has one, but am I missing something? Correct me if I'm mistaken, because I love the music videos, and would like to know why they don't seem to be showing up for me.

The music videos/karaoke cutscenes only play if you're performing well. If you miss a lot of button presses you won't get the cutscene.

Of course, if you're playing well and still not seeing them, it's probably a bug.
How can you even play the karaoke? All the songs are ahead of the buttons by almost half a second, it's awful and they need to patch it, the music just needs to be delayed by a little bit so it syncs up with the button presses. If you press the buttons on beat chances are you'll get a "good" rating instead of "great" because of the synchronisation.

But what the above said is correct, you will not see the music videos unless you play well enough and every song does have one unless you're doing interjections alone.

It might be a framerate-tied issue, because I haven't really noticed anything out of sync like that on my PS4.

Who knows honestly, I play at 30fps but I tried 60 and nothing changed.

Ah, I see - I did not realize that it was tied to performance. I'm not sure if that was the deal in the previous games, but thank you for letting me know. Since I'm playing on the PC, my timing is skewed a bit, though I'm not sure if that's because my computer meets the minimum requirements and not the recommended ones, or if it's just not as well optimized for PC as it is for console.

Still, thank you for letting me know, and I will keep that in mind!

While we're on that topic, how is this port? Kiwami 2 didn't have the greatest performance ever.

Beats me - I myself don't have a copy of Kiwami 2 myself.

If Like a Dragon is anything to go by, then perhaps the Dragon Engine just isn't as well-optimized for PC.

Dragon Engine's not well optimized on consoles either, so I can't say I'm surprised.

i dont own kiwami i played it through other means (you know what i mean) on max settings with my 2060, and r5 2600 and ended up having to cap the fps to 60 due to the mash qtes (like grabs) being tied to fps. I never dropped a frame though i do play at 1080p. Like a dragon is in the same boat for me though i didnt have to cap my fps this time.

Uh I have no issues with timing on Karoke for myself. I do a little pass the button in karoke and usually get very high rating. Most singles for Ichiban is highest score while the others require a bit more precision in regards to tapping really fast. I find that by tapping a little earlier when that line comes up you can get great if its consistent. For rapid button presses. But other than that I usually get almost flawless timing. Unless your fps is hitting below 60 that might be why its doing bad for you.

I noticed that FPS isn't tied to this games Karoke like in previous titles which makes it much easier for me. Though I lock my fps usually at 60 in this game and its fine.

Using an RX 5700 XT GPU with 4790K CPU. Usually at like 60 fps for most parts of the game at 1440p.

This game out of all the yakuza games is best performing one in regards to Timing and karoke for me. Its been really good solid fps for me though might be b/c I finally got a decent GPU while other titles I was on 1060 or 970

That's not the point of karaoke, you should be able to listen to the music and press the button perfectly with the music. It works like this in every single Yakuza game, I've played 0, Kiwami, Kiwami 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and Ishin and literally none of them are out of sync by one bit, they're all fine.

This is the only game where you have to actively look at the buttons along the stave and press them when they pass over the bar instead of listening to the actual song and pressing them with actual rhythm. If I turn the music off I can get 100% every time, but that's removes the point entirely, the music is out of sync, and I worked out that the music is ahead of the video by almost half a second meaning you have you press everything early and it's awful. It's clearly not supposed to be like this and is a bug, not sure if the Xbox and PS4 versions have the same issue however, but given how bugged the PC version is overall, my bet is that it's only this version.

Karaoke is my favourite part of these games, and to have it out of sync is a nightmare, it has nothing to do with the performance of the game, I play it at locked 30 and also tried a locked 60 and it was the same (I can get 60 I just think the dragon engine looks nicer at 30), comparing to the PC version of Kiwami 2, it becomes even more obvious that it's simply a bug with this game.

You can literally fix it manually by adding audio latency, all the devs have to do is offset the music so it starts slightly later.

Reminds me of the bug with Theatre Seagull movies issue. The timing is impossible unless you know what's up exactly.

I had planned to comment something similar to this but you put it pretty succinctly. I actually fired up all of 0 - 6 last night to see if I was remembering wrong. But no, I did just fine and there was no offset in any of those. Also like you I do just fine turning off the sound and just watching the prompts, but where's the fun in that?
Agree, I've played every Yakuza on consoles and all there is on PC and this is the first time I notice that the karaoke is out of sync. This is a clear issue for many, so i just hope it gets patched.

Busted in ultrawide resolution. Just like the batting cages.

I play at 3440x1440p and many minigames that require timings are busted due to my high end settings.
