The "Love Magic" shop sells weapons for most of the early jobs that I didn't replace for a long time on my playthrough. Additionally, if you can unlock the Foreman job for Ichiban, make sure to do that. You unlock the ability to destroy barricades which you can use to access some hidden shops in Ijincho, where you can buy better items and weapons than what you can find elsewhere (the skill is permanently unlocked, so you don't need to stay as a Foreman).
Other than that, it would be a good idea to have a character who can apply defensive buffs, or just focus on offence so you can beat the bosses before they defeat you.
1) Do the underground sewers for an enemy called Invested Vagabond. Your objective is to slay this dude and finish the battle. You don't have to clear the dungeon, but killing the Invested Vagabond nets you about 15k exp for the level 30 and 80k exp for the level 35. Go up and down the stairs to respawn the enemies.
2) Finish the business management so you can get a summon that wipes all the enemies (technically not wiping, but it does so a lot of damage to all enemies)
3) Once you make money via your business, you can get materials by buying them from a vendor Northeast of Hamakita Park, near Dragon Kart. Not all the materials are available though.
That's all I can think from the top of my head.
I'm not sure about the exact damage numbers, but to find one of the hidden shops, take a taxi to the Seagull Cinema and head north up the road until you see an alley on your right. Go down there and up a flight of stairs and the barricade for the shop is close by.
If I remember correctly, the weapons are pretty expensive, but they should be worth it.
