I think the reason is because Todd is, himself, a disgruntled bass player!
Egos and Attitudes are mostly what creates anger in the game.
A band member with a high ego gets unhappy if he is not getting his tiles used on new songs and if songs he contributed tiles to are not featured at gigs and on albums.
Band members with attitudes that are opposed to other members' attitudes will become angry. In other words, if one member has celibacy and another has sex, they will have issues. If one of them has better chemistry with the band, the odd one out will become disgruntled.
Repairing gear, new clothes, new gear, artwork, song contribution, seeing a show, and gigs each contribute to individual character happiness. I believe (no proof) that disgruntled band members detract from overall happiness bonus after a gig.
